Alcoholism: Horror in a Bottle
A drink or two is rarely a problem but when people are unable to moderate their drinking habits, then it is a problem. A problem which can potentially ruin the lives of the person with the disease along with their loved ones.
There are many people out there who have a drink or two when hanging out with friends. In reality, there is nothing wrong with having a drink. If you have the ability and self-control to moderate your drinking habits, to the point where you can pace yourself to the point where you don’t slip past the limit that might be considered drunk.
Sadly however there are many people who cannot stop at a couple of drinks. They continue to throw down the alcoholic beverages at a rate that many others would drink water or even breath air. If people do that, it is a serious case to say the very least. In fact, when someone throws down drinks at that rate, there is some cause of a serious sickness, mentally.
Alcoholism is a disease which impairs our ability to know when we’ve had enough to drink. Alcoholics cannot just have a drink, because it leads to a slippery slope where they drink one more and then one more and eventually they are sliding down that slippery slope at a rate that they cannot control.
A misconception exists that drinking alcohol period is alcoholism but in reality, it’s the inability to have the self-control to stop, the inability to moderate the habit in question that is the key cause of this unfortunate disease.
A Prisoner of The Bottle.
Alcoholics tend to be a bit more unable to cope with the harsh realities of the world. They tend to go right into the bottle. Then they tend to blame everyone for the fact that their life is ruined because of their attachment to their poison of choice. They blame their jobs, they blame their families, they blame the government, they blame anyone.
It is an ugly reality as they continue to go right to the bottle. Unable to let go, unable to stop and face the realities that they offer as a scape goat. It is also a vicious cycle as their consumption of alcohol leads a rougher time with some of the problems that they blame for their drinking condition in the first place.
Helping Those Who Cannot Be Helped
Alcoholics are obviously not going to admit that they have a problem. If someone gently brings up the fact that they are throwing their lives away, they lash out, blaming the concerned family member or friend for being the fault. It causes many to freeze, unable to figure out what to do. They watch helplessly as those afflicted with Alcoholism continues to drink their life away, and get more miserable, the further they press away.
The deeper they get in, the harder it is to convince them. Years of plowing away at this destructive level is not going to be pretty. We all want to help but help is not appreciated by many who snap at us for our concerned efforts. As we go with a firmer hand, there are times where alcoholics will dig their heels in, being even more stubborn, even more determined not to admit their vices. Yet for the determined, we take any chance we can to drill it through the heads of those we care about, that have gone down this dangerous path, of how much that they throwing their life away.

It is sad to watch someone destroy their life over alcohol. Help can be obtained, however as we all know, the person with the problem needs to admit they have a problem!

Liver damage is another danger to alcoholism, which is both a mental and a physical disease.
