How I Quit Smoking
The story of a young man who was inspired by “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.
It was near the end of 1980. I was coming up on my 25th birthday. I had been smoking
over half of my life.
One day, after climbing a short flight of stairs, I noticed I was breathing harder than
normal. I thought; wow! ?I’m not even 25 and I feel like I’m 50.
I had just finished reading “The Power of Positive Thinking”, and I wondered; How can
I think positive, when I feel so bad.
Smoking had never bothered me much, except, when I was going through basic training
in the Army. I slowed down on smoking, but never stopped. And here I was now smoking
almost two packs a day (whew!).
That evening, after supper, as I was enjoying a cigarette; I thought about what I had
been reading lately. Motivational books. I began to realize: It would take a lot of
motivation to break such a habit, and wondered if I could make it work.
I really put the old noodle to work and got to thinking. I started asking myself questions:
- Why did I start smoking in the first place? Peer pressure. I hung out with older boys
and they all smoked. (The cool dudes, anyway.) What kind a reason to ruin ones health is that? - Why is it so hard to quit? Addiction to nicotine, plain and simple.
- The most important question: Can I quit?
I looked at that little stick of tobacco between my fingers and started to get angry.
Angry at myself for letting such a small thing take over my life. Something that is going
to destroy me and kill me.
The first five days were the hardest, but It wasn’t all that bad, as I look back on it.
Anyone can do it. It’s not impossible.
I can’t tell you everything there is to know about quitting. The information I could
give you would probably be outdated. I’m going to offer you a way to get the most up-to-date
information there is. It’s in a book. You’re probably thinking; what’s his motive?
My motive for promoting this book is to try to keep so many people from dying from
cancer. Over the years I have witnessed a lot of people dying from cancer due to smoking.
A lot of them were my closest and dearest friends.
Even if you don’t smoke, this book would make a wonderful gift for someone who does.
It has a money back guarantee and not expensive at all (Less than the price of a carton
of cigarettes). It doesn’t cost anything to take a peek.

I stopped almost 8 years ago. Positive thinking helps but you need an awful lot of will power too. It’s really hard to do but well worth it once you reap the benefits.

I liked your article and strength to quit smoking, well done. I have a tape of Dr Norman Vincent Peale and he is one of my inspirational people but I used a hypnotherapist to help me quit.It has only been 7 months but I am still a non smoker!
