Internet Addiction and Our Society

Internet addiction is a growing problem with more and more people. The internet is much more accessible to people now than it was just a few years ago. The internet provides people with entertainment, loads of information, Social Networking, and an escape from everyday life. But like anything else that is beneficial, too much of a good thing can become addictive. As of 2009, The United States of America has over 9-15 million people that use the internet intensely everyday.Internet Addiction contributes to the loss of real world communication skills, effects the education of students, and alters the Brain. This speech/essay will explain the effects of Internet Addiction on people and why people should really limit their usage of the internet

Internet Addiction is the overuse of internet or excessive use of the computer which interferes with the daily life. Though the internet is a type of social technology created by man, the effects that it can have on social relations can be damaging. The time that people spend on the internet, can be used to mingle and connect with people in person. It is very common for a frequent internet user to replace his/her face-to-face relationships with those made on the internet. As a person gets addicted to the internet, his/her ability to mingle with others often decreases as it is recreated in online chartrooms, etc.

Education is also affected greatly by Internet Addiction. The obsession over the internet has also affected the education of children in many countries and the daily lives of many families around the world. Many students who become addicted to online gaming and the use of the internet start to avoid classes to play games, greatly affecting their marks and their future. These students eventually drop out of high school or post secondary and are not able to achieve their full potential in life.

Last but not least, Internet Addiction has very harmful effects on the Human Brain. On March 5th, 2010, a young couple in Korea allowed their 3 moth old daughter to starve to death, while being obsessed with raising a virtual child in a role playing Game. On January 19th, 2010, another violent event took place. After a mother dragged her 13 year old son from an internet bar, he threatened to throw the family pet out the balcony. Due to this, his disappointed and angered mother jumped out.

As you can see, Internet Addiction has many harmful effects on our everyday life and should be very limited in our daily time schedule. The effects of Internet Addiction range from being very severe and violent to something that just affects our daily social life. But nonetheless it is a issue that should be taken seriously as it does affect our lives and everyone around us. Thank You ( if Speech or other interesting ending)
