Is Your Heroin Addict Living Rent Free?

Then you are paying for the heroin.

I know it is hard for a parent to admit that their kiddo, once a precious baby, is now a heroin addict. Parental instinct is to protect and nurture their children and protect them from that callous and indifferent world out there away from the safety and comfort of home.

Peer pressure, insecurity, boredom are among the many conditions that can induce addictive behavior. Heroin addiction starts usually as a  recreational drug. As the frequency of consumption increases, physical dependency is a possibility. Physical dependency is invariably accompanied by behavior swings. Like alcohol addiction, heroin addiction can be arrested by detox.

However allowing your heroin addict to live rent free, while a natural parental urge, can be equivalent to paying for your beloved child’s heroin! Just as loved ones enable the alcoholism of those they love, reducing your child or young adults expenses can free up money for purchasing their heroin which makes you a heroin addict enabler!

Please intervene now to interrupt the substance abuse cycle as the road to recovery and rehabilitation will only get longer if you continue to “protect” your loved one. A professional intervention may be required depending on the magnitude and duration of the addiction.

Also, slightly off topic, if your  hubby or spouse has been uncharacteristically insensitive recently, then the possible cause is some sort of substance dependence. Mood swings, loss of interest in pursuits that once interested your spouse, and moodiness are all potential indicators of addictive substance abuse.
