Alcohol is a good example of a central depressive drug. Many people may not think of it that way, but alcohol is actually by far the most widely used and miss used drug. Alcohol needs no further explanation, but many drugs within this category works similar to the body as alcohol.
The use of Central Depressive inhibits the functions controlled by the central nervous system. They affect only those parts of the brain that controls a person’s conscious movements. Larger doses effects even the parts of the brain that controls the unconscious functions, such as respiration and cardiovascular activity.
Benzodiazepines
This group of drugs was introduced in the 1960s and contains one of the active ingredient lorazepam, alprazolam, flunitrazepam, diazepam, nitrazepam, oxazepam and others. They are mainly used as medicine for anxiety and insomnia. Famous brands are Rohypnol, Valium, Stesolid and Sobril.
Benzodiazepines usually appear as pills for swallowing, all though it’s possible to smoke or inject the pills if they are crushed. Some drugs, like Stesolid, are also available for injection.

Effects
The effect kicks in after about 20 minutes (swallowed pills). The duration may be a few hours or longer (may differ). The use of Benzodiazepines may cause the following effects:
- Relaxation
- Alcohol-like intoxication
- High doses may cause euphoria condition but also paradoxical reactions
- Emotional coldness, aggression and violence.
GHB
GHB was first used in France anesthetic. GHB is present in the human body by very small quantities. It is a neurotransmitter that affects a number of key functions such as wakefulness, sleep and temperature regulation as well as aggression and sexuality. The drug have been used by body builders as a effect on the muscle growth and later used mainly used by young people. GBL, BD and similar are variants that produce GHB in the body when consumed.
If the dose is right, GHB have similar effects to alcohol. The big problem is that the dose may be hard to predict. Many young people have died as a result of overconsuming. GHB originally appears as white powder, while home made GHB occurs blended as a colorless fluid. Thus it’s swallowed for intake.

Effects
The effect kicks in after about 10-20 minutes and lasts for about 3-4 hours.
- Low doses has a euphoric effect, similar to the alcohol intake
- Moderate dose has a rewarding effect of sleep and an
- Overdose disturbs vital body functions which could result in unconsciousness or death.
