The Effect of Virus From Sosiopolitic Perspective

Virus which commonly associated with illness, in reality have greater impact to society.

Virus is viewed as dangerous in the aspect of sosiopolitic and ethic since it can be manipulated as bioweapon. Still, some ethicians are debating on the rights of the virus itself, to exist in this world. Although there are not many that can be said on the advantages of virus on the sociopolitical aspect, virus has contributed to the increased awareness of the public in the healthcare area.

Due to the emergence of many kinds of diseases from viruses, the public has high awareness of hygiene compared to 50 years ago. Now, even a simple act like hand washing, coughing and sneezing are considered in detail as these acts could easily cause the spread of virus. Even in preparing food has a new definition as now the public realized that uncooked food can’t kill viruses that might be inside the food.

Other advantage is that the government has also taken many precautions in order to prevent the spread of many viruses by setting aside many rules and regulation not only in the public health area but even in the food service industry so that certain standard of healthcare is obeyed.

Another advantage is that the government has increased its relationship in the research and development area with other countries by joining their resources together in order to combat the virus epidemic. Since lots of resources are needed in combating this war against virus, this international health issue has made some countries to join their resources together as a more economical, faster and easier way.

Virus on the other hand has many disadvantages from the sociopolitical aspects. First of all once the outbreak of virus has been declared, quarantine would be effective immediately just like the recent H1N1 virus. Under these conditions, those who are infected or suspected with the virus have their freedom limited due to prevention of the virus from spreading. Thus, freedom is taken from the public due to the rules and regulation set by the government.

Besides that, those who are infected by the virus would have their life to be socially changed. An example is AIDS patients. Even if they are not quarantined, the public would shun them out from society because the disease is contagious due to the virus. Thus, people would avoid them socially and would try to prevent any social communication with them due to the misconception about the virus.

Furthermore, since lots of rules are set by the government during the outbreak of viruses it could also bring hardship to the public as unnecessary protocols has to be obeyed especially in public areas such as the airport where screening has to be done to those leaving or entering the country. Although it is an important prevention method, it is still considered unnecessary to some.

  1. as usual Triond has put this on the wrong webpage so i have flagged it to be moved to Health. Viruses are just part of life and we have to do what we need to so that they do not spread. Saying this governments sometimes do go over the top.

  2. Well, prevention is better than cure, I guess.
