Your Kids and Oxycontin: It Could be a Deadly Combination

OxyContin contains oxycodone, a very strong narcotic pain reliever similar to morphine. Because OxyContin is time-released, breaking, chewing or crushing it may result in overdose. It is intended to relieve moderate to severe pain that is present all the time. Combining OxyContin with sleeping pills, tranquilizers and other pain medications, or with alcohol, may result in injury or death. Taking OxyContin daily can result in physical dependence.

Drug Addiction in America is a major problem. The number of Kid’s addicted to drugs is On a sharp increase.

4.5 million American kids have reported that they’ve abused prescription drugs. Are you positive that your child isn’t one of them? The most popular Prescription drug abused appears to be Oxycontin.

Five times as many 12th graders report using Oxycontin than report using methamphetamine. The results have been tragic. Emergency rooms are seeing so many more over doses of oxycontin then then they were just two years ago. To many parents have had to bury a child that was just trying to “get high”.

Oxycontin was originally intended for cancer patients and chronic pain sufferers but, instead has become the number one abused Schedule II drug in the country.

OxyContin is very expensive on the street up to $80 for one pill. OxyContin is so expensive that many teens turn to stealing to support their habit. Some have wiped their parents out financially by stealing bank cards and draining the accounts.

OxyContin is highly addictive.”OxyContin is also deceptive. Most kids don’t realize that it’s a part of the opiate family. Once they become addicted they’re shocked to find out it is just as dangerous as heroin.

Kids crush up the 12-hour time release pills and snort them, so they get hit with all the opiate at once. OxyContin abusers either crush the tablet and ingest or snort it or dilute it in water and inject it.

4.7 percent of high school seniors said they get high on OxyContin. There are many more who won’t admit to it. If you overhear your child talking to friends pay attention. They may say something that will help you save their life.

If you hear them talking about any thing listen for clues such as the street names for Oxycontin; Oxy, O.C., OxyCotton, Oxy 80, Oxy’s, Oxies, Killers, Oceans, O’s, Oxycoffins, and Hillbilly Heroin

This drug is extremely dangerous when abused. OxyContin addiction is as severe as heroin addiction because they are both derived from opium. It has been called “heroin in a pill because you’re getting twelve hours of narcotic in minutes,” Often the person goes to sleep and their respirations slowly decrease until breathing stops completely. we’re losing 12 to 20-year-olds to overdoses, we’re losing our future generations.

As with many street drugs, the addiction is so strong that people will go to great lengths to get Oxycontin, including robbing pharmacies and writing false prescriptions.

Addiction creeps up on the individual until acquiring the drug becomes a consuming obsession affecting everyone and everything around them, friends, family, job, finances and many times involving the police when the criminal behavior catches up to them .If They don’t receive help the addiction will eventually take their life.

Withdrawal from Oxycontin can be severe and medical help may be necessary to acomplish it.

Symptoms of withdrawal include restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting, cold flashes with goose bumps, and involuntary leg movements.

What can you do to help your child stay off of drugs?

Research shows that kids who learn about drug risks from their parents are half as likely to use drugs as kids who haven’t had that conversation with Mom and Dad

If a child has already begun taking drugs – or has developed an addiction to those drugs – it is crucial that help is sought immediately. Their life depends on it.
