Aging and Exercise

The importance of exercise as you age.

As we age exercise becomes more important in our lives than at any other time. Some of us live for that walk we take every day while others limit themselves to sitting for the greater part of the day. This sitting can do a lot of harm in the long run. How do we get motivated to start an exercise program that we can stay with? The answer to this can be as simple as a daily walk.

If you can walk inside then you shouldn’t have a problem walking in the great outdoors. Set small goals for yourself at first with a walk around the block. This doesn’t have to be a marathon. Take your time and enjoy your walk. The speed you’re walking doesn’t matter at this point, what matters is that you are walking.

If you can’t get outside then make your plans to do some exercise inside your home such as riding an exercise bicycle. Even if you do this for a few minutes each day you are giving yourself a start to becoming healthier and stronger. Make this a daily routine for a few weeks then try to add to the time you spend on the exercise bike each week. Don’t make goals that you know you can’t do, keep your exercise plan within reason. As you accomplish your goal as the weeks go by you will find your confidence growing along with the exercising. You won’t believe the difference it can make in your life. It doesn’t matter what time of day you do exercise the most important thing is that you do it and make it a regular part of your day.

Aging is something we must fight on a daily bases and there is no better way than doing some kind of exercise. It helps every organ in your body and strengthens your mind as well as your body. Walking is free and there are some wonderful sights to be seen when you’re doing this.

I must admit there is not every day I feel like going for a walk, especially when the weather is bad but we have two dogs that give me the motivation to get out for a walk. This is my motivation. These guys are doing me a bigger favor than I do for them. Being up in age I need that daily walk for my health and often wonder without the dogs how long would it take me to become the biggest couch potato in history.
