Alzheimer’s or Advanced Dementia: A Sad Fact of Life
Many people are living longer lives, however these diseases are becoming a sad fact of life.
People are living longer. Unfortunately, so many people suffer from Alzheimer or Advanced Dementia both diseases which affect the memory.
It is very sad to watch a loved one slowly lose this most precious of possessions, their memory. It is very difficult to watch them becoming increasingly confused
and forgetful. They try to cover it up in embarrassment.
Several years ago Alzheimer was not mentioned much outside of families. It was considered something not to talk about. I think that is so sad. Not only are people having difficulties, but people shun them. People acted as though they brought disgrace to the family. Something they had no control over.
It is very difficult for the family or loved ones of the individual suffering from these diseases. Sometimes it causes embarrassment especially among the younger family members or they don’t want to talk about the person. They also want to avoid that person. I am glad people no longer have to mention this disease in whispers. There is more information to be found about it either on the Internet, or through support groups. People are more willing to talk about them. It is not as looked down upon to have a family member with these diseases.
As other readers may have. I have watched someone close to me slowly deteriorate from one of these diseases . Sometimes people might say they wish they did not have to remember certain bad memories. However can they imagine not remembering anything at all about their lives or the people in them because they have no choice.
