How is this the case?
It can’t have escaped your attention that the people of the world are having more problems with their health than ever before. In the current economic climate particularly, our health service is struggling to cope with the problems that people are having, so I thought that it might be a good idea to take a moment to stop and think about the things that could be causing so many problems.
The fact that junk food is so readily available to people is just one example. In the past, people would not have eaten outside of their homes unless it was a really special occasion, but now people are grabbing meals all of the time when they’re out. Unfortunately, the foods that they’re choosing to eat are not healthy, and contain a lot of fat and calories. If you go to any burger bar, you will find that even the “healthy options” have far more calories than you would ideally want to be putting into your body at any time. I watched a television documentary on this issue, and they said that the burger places entice people into their stores by offering bigger and better meals than the others, and because of human nature we don’t like to waste food, so anythig that is given to us on our plate we are likely to eat.
Another issue with junk food is that it is so easy to find and consume. If you had food places that would provide you with genuinely healthy options for the same kind of price as the unhealthy options, then chances are you would get people choosing to buy them. Sadly, this is often not the case at all, and you will get more people trying to save money by compromising on the amount of food that they’re able to buy. This means that more people are making unhealthy choices and this is damaging their health.
The other thing that is having a huge impact on our every day health is the fact that we no longer have to be as active in our day to day life. If you think about life even in the times of our parents, they would have had to spend a lot more time on house work because there weren’t any of the machines available. They wouldn’t have had cars to take them everywhere unless they were very rich, and there is no way that they would be able to talk to people without getting up and going to their houses to speak to them in person. Now, we don’t have to move. We have remote controls for the TV, the internet to talk to people all over the world, and a number to phone if we would like unhealthy food to be delivered to our door. There are more cars on the road than ever before, and this is negative to both our own health and the health of the planet in general because of the fact that the emissions from the cars are going into the atmosphere. Although life is undoubtably being made easier by these modern inventions, it is also clearly the case that it is being made more unhealthy. Something needs to be done to tackle this, otherwise the life expectancy of upcoming generations is going to fall dramatically.
