10 Uses for Peppermint Oil
Peppermint is more than just a holiday candy. The oil can be used for multiple things that are both medicinal and edible.
Peppermint is typically associated with the holidays, but the oil can be used every day of the year.
- Put 5-6 drops of peppermint oil in the tub or shower before you start the water. The scent revives you and clears your head for a long day.
- If you get bad headaches, put a few drops of Peppermint Oil on a cold, wet washcloth and place over your eyes. The cold and smell relaxes your senses. Make sure the oil doesn’t get into your eyes.
- Add a few drops of Peppermint Oil to white chocolate before you heat the chocolate. Then dip pretzels in the hot chocolate. A great treat!
- One drop of peppermint oil in a cup of herbal tea helps digestion and has been known to ease heartburn
- Buy unscented body cream and add a few drops of peppermint oil. It becomes a wonderful cream to massage with.
- Inhale peppermint oil at your lowest point in the day. It will revive your energy.
- Place a few drops of peppermint oil on an oil burner and increase the energy in the room
- Drop a bit of peppermint oil in a footbath with rolling water to aid in relieving tired feet
- Add 2-3 drops of peppermint oil to a dry washcloth. Put the washcloth in the dryer with your clothes.
- You can make your own massage oil by adding 4-5 drops of peppermint oil to every 1 oz. of skin approved vegetable oil.

Good ideas. I recently read that by rubbing a drop of peppermint oil between your hands and lightly touching the pads on your dogs front feet, the dog will be calmed before going to the vet, the groomer, or anything else that might cause canine anxiety!

My wife suffers terribly from IBS. I saw recently in the press that peppermint oil is good for the treatment of IBS. The trouble is here in South Africa we can not get the coated tablets reffered to and can only get the actual oil. How best is it taken to relieve Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Can it be mixed with a drink or hot water?
Regards
Peter

Is there a difference in “grades” of peppermint oil? For example, can the same peppermint oil be used both in a bath and ingested (as in homemade mouthwash)? A small bottle (1 or 2 oz.) I found said it wasn’t for ingestion. Now I don’t know what to look for.
Thanks and Peace to you.

One use was not included: use as a mouse repellent. Put some on a cotton ball and place wherever there are mice. The best non chemical way to deter mice in and around the house!

I have Crohn’s disease and stomach ulcers. When I experience pain and/or bloating I mix a few drops of peppermint oil with either coco butter oil or baby oil and rub it on my stomach and abdominal area. You’d be surprised at how well it works! You can also mix it with hot tea for a drink. Hope this helps!

I read an article that peppermint oil can also be used as a sexual stimulant for women.
Would it be safe to use that way?
