The seventh point on the Lung Meridian and is a powerful acupuncture point. It is effective in relieving headaches, migraines, stiff neck, toothache, and facial paralysis. It can be used to promote circulation in the brain and improve memory.
In acupuncture, sometimes one powerful acupuncture point (acupoint) is effective for a variety of diseases. For example, LU 7 (Lieque) is the seventh point on the Lung Meridian and is such a powerful acupuncture point. LU 7 (Lieque) is deemed as the “command point” of the head and neck. It is effective in relieving headaches, migraines, stiff neck, toothache, and facial paralysis. It can be used to promote circulation in the brain and improve memory.
The acupuncture point LU 7 (Lieque) is also a commonly used point for respiratory diseases, such as nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, asthma, and hemoptysis. In addition, it is useful for hematuria, feverish urination, penis pain, wrist pain, and palm heat.
The meaning of the name of this acupuncture point is interesting. In Chinese language, “lie” means broken, and “que” means insufficient or depression. In ancient China, the lightning and the rift in the sky were called “Lieque.” The name here implies that the Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin diverges from this point, going to the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming.
To find the acupuncture point LU 7 (Lieque), it is located in the depression superior to the styloid process of the radius, 1.5 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist. A convenient way to locate the point is to interlock your thumb and index finger of one hand with those of the other, with the index finger of one hand on the styloid process of the radius of the other hand. The point is in the depression under the index finger tip.
For acupressure on this point to heal cough and other diseases, stimulate this point on both hands using your thumb for seven to ten seconds for ten times, or until your symptoms subside. To use acupuncture, puncture with needles obliquely in the direction of the elbow for 0.3-0.5 cun.
LU 7 (Lieque) is the “Luo-Connecting” acupuncture point of the Lung Meridian. “Luo-Connecting” acupuncture points can be used to treat diseases of the regions that the meridians run through, as well as disorders of the corresponding external and internal meridians. This point is also one of the eight convergent acupuncture points and is connected with the Ren Meridian (Conception Vessel), which means it can be used to treat disorders of the corresponding tissues and organs.
Stimulations on the acupuncture point LU 7 (Lieque) may have many effects such as regulating the Lung qi, improving the circulation of defensive qi, expelling exterior wind, clearing the Ren Meridian (Conception Vessel), and benefiting the Bladder.
