Herbs and Their Uses
Herbs are very important and can be used for many medicinal purposes. I have listed here,some of better known herbs and their uses.
Herbs can be used in many forms of:
- Ointments, lotions, oils, poultices, syrups
- Inhalations of steams
- Tisane, teas made from a variety of parts of the plant
- Infusions: tea made from parts of the plants
- Decoction: teas made from herbs, and straining them
- Capsules, tablets or drops to place under the tongue
- Herbal baths
- Tinctures: herbs infused in alcohol
Common Herbs and their Uses:
- Aloe Vera: helps hear burns and skin rashes
- Anise: relives digestive discomfort
- Bayberry Bark: relieves sore throat and congestion
- Chamomile: soothes the nerves
- Fennel: reduces flatulence, relieves colic, aids digestion
- Echinacea: treats fevers and infections
- Ginseng: improves circulation and sexual function
- Goldenseal Root: treats internal infections and ulcers
- Jojoba: soothes skin and scalp problems
- Parsley: a good diuretic, useful in treating the gall bladder and expelling kidney stones
- White Willow Bark” relieves pain and fever
- . Sage: relieves sore throat and mouth sores
- Valerian Root: for nerves and sleep disorders

Ruby, this is very useful info. I think parsley is also good for freshening breath, and I was once told it has the opposite effect to aphrodisiacs if eaten in large quantities, but don’t know if that’s true. I always drink an achinacea tea if I’m coming down with a cold.

My mama gathered herbs from the woods when I was a boy. some of my happiest days were spent wandering over the mountain with my mother digging herbs.
