How the Colours You Wear Affect Your Health and Wellbeing
Each colour carries its own unique vibration, and as these vibrations interact with our personal vibrations, it is wise to ensure we choose the ones that enhance and work for us rather than against us. The colours we wear reflect or inner most thoughts and feelings and project to the world the person we want to be seen as.

Some people choose their colours intuitively, focusing on what is needed for that day, while others choose their colours dependant on the day ahead, picking power colours such as red or black to boost confidence and self esteem while giving a business like persona for important meetings.
Colours can also be chosen to boost our health and state of mind too. For example if you are feeling angry or anxious wearing red is the last thing you should do as it will only aggravate your emotions.
The colour clothing we choose acts just like a colour light filter. When light, real or artificial shines through the colour it is projected onto our skin, where it works not only on the tissues and cells within our physical body but also on the subtle bodies contained in our auric field. It is wise to consider the colours you are teaming up together too, as conflicting colours may cause conflicting emotions and mental states, which can be detrimental to our wellbeing.
Below we’ll take a look at some colours and their effect of us, along with their health giving properties.
Red
Wearing red says “I am confident, passionate, sensual, excitable, lively and full of energy”. And also “I tend to be single minded, sexually motivated, brimming with vitality, enjoy physical activity, I experience things intensely and if over stimulated may be susceptible to out bursts of anger”.
As you can see wearing red is highly stimulating, and excites the brain. It increases alertness, vitality and excitement, but in a negative way this can manifest as aggression and violence. A darker red invokes feelings of richness, if you imagine the red plush fabrics used in church or by royalty. A brighter red is more associated with sexual and romantic love, as you can see from its popularity on St Valentines Day.
Red is good for anyone suffering from asthma, bronchitis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, anaemia, lethargy or constipation. It is best avoided by those suffering from emotional disturbances, mental illness, or those with a high fever, Inflammations, or high blood pressure.
Orange
Wearing orange says “I am full of vitality and love to express my creativity, I am happy and intune with all aspects of myself”.
As we can see orange is quite a stimulating colour to wear, it is related to action and vitality, but if worn excessively it may in time induce restlessness.
Orange is good for anyone suffering from asthma, bronchitis, colds, gout, mental. exhaustion, rheumatism, or for woman with menstrual irregularities.
Yellow
Wearing yellow says “I am a good communicator, a fountain of ideas and am always interested in what is going on”.
In ancient as well as modern times, yellow is known to represent the power and symbology of the sun, the power of God/Goddess as well as the light of eternal life.
As we can see wearing yellow makes us feel sunny even on a grey wintry day. It leaves us feeling uplifted, exhilarated, and increases our mental abilities. Golden shades of yellow help put us in touch with our spiritual path. Care must be taken not to wear it too often and avoid too bright a shade of yellow if it begins to make you feel too restless
Yellow is good for arthritis, rheumatism, neuralgia, tiredness, depression, indigestion constipation, eczema, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disorders, It is best avoided by those suffering from diarrhoea, fever, palpitations, or delirium.
Green
Wearing green says “I am in harmony with myself and others and I attract abundance to myself”. “I am persistent and have great endurance and high self-esteem”.
As we can see wearing green symbolises hope and personal growth. It was a colour that was sacred and a symbol of hope and springtime to the ancient Egyptians. Green is an excellent colour to wear for anyone involved in studies or teaching. Pure green and the duller shades of green, like khaki for example, promote coolness, tranquillity and sedation. It is advised to avoid lime or fluorescent shades of green as it may induce biliousness if you have a sensitive constitution.
Yellow is good for asthma, hay fever, exhaustion, insomnia, colic, irritability, nervous complaints, ulcers and neuralgia. It is best avoided by anyone suffering with growths or cancer as green encourages continued growth, while red inhibits it.
Blue
Wearing blue says “I am intuitive, loyal, trustworthy and relaxed and at peace with myself and my surroundings” “I communicate well with others, I am open and loving with high ideals, I strive for unity and integrity in all that I do”.
As we can see blue is symbolic of truth and fidelity and is often used to signify all that is heavenly.
Wearing dark blue is associated with richness, royalty and the church. It invokes feelings of calmness and serenity. Prolonged exposure may produce feelings of melancholia, uneasiness and depression
Blue is good for headaches, glaucoma, insomnia, shock, palpitations, irritable bowel, diarrhoea, colic, tonsillitis, chicken pox, itching, burns and goitres. It is best avoided by those suffering with colds, gout, rheumatism and hypertension.
Indigo blue is good for asthma, bronchitis, respiratory disease, ear, throat and eye diseases, and mental illness in particular obsessional tendencies. It is best avoided by those suffering with colds or hypertension.
Purple
Wearing purple says “I am highly creative and spiritual; I have high morals and am helpful to others in whatever way I can be”
Purple in its varying rich shades represents connection to the divine. It is the colour that connects us to the spiritual aspects of life and helps us to feel and experience the unconditional love of higher level beings and realms. This makes it a popular choice for members of the clergy and other religious or spiritual practises or groups.
Violet
Violet shares many of the same properties of purple; it is mystical, unifying, enchanting and charming. It promotes spiritual understanding and high spiritual manifesting that can transmute lower negative energies into positivity. Too much can leave the wearer feeling unstable and uneasy, some countries relate this colour to death and mourning. If it is too powerful a colour for you then trying a lighter shade such as lilac, may be more suitable for you as the presence of white in the shade, tones it down without losing the essence of the shade. This promotes soft, romantic feelings; and is soothing and sedative.
It is beneficial for concussion, mental illness, abdominal cramps, bladder disorders, kidney infections, rheumatism, sciatica and skin diseases.
Magenta
Magenta shares properties with purple and pink and wearing this colour says “I am a balanced person working to serve others in a caring and practical manner”
Black
Wearing black says “I am sophisticated, efficient, glamorous, and secure in who I am as a person”
Many associate black with evil, dark arts and witchcraft, and as such often refer to being in a “black mood” or having a “black day”. It is also a colour worn in mourning in western traditions, many wear it is a colour of respect, but it also worn as a powerful protective colour against negative energies. Wearing black too often can feel a little oppressive and depressive. It can also make you appear cold and unapproachable to others.
This is similar to wearing grey, it is a great colour for conformity for blending in, but too much can lead to a lack of confidence, depression, lack of energy and an urge to hide away from the world.
White
Wearing white says “I strive to be a highly evolved spiritual being; I am highly motivated and embrace purity, cleanliness, and simplicity”.
As white incorporates all other colours it also shares a mixture of same properties, this makes it a great balancer of energy. Its crisp, clean, sterile appearance makes it a popular choice for medical institutions, as well as catering establishments. Wearing this colour promotes clarity, simplicity, a way of decluttering yourself and your life. It brings an air of sophistication and efficiency to your appearance. Care must be taken to ensure it doesn’t make you come across as aloof, cold uncaring or unapproachable.
Pink
Wearing pink says “I am compassionate, loving and devoted”.
Pink shares its properties with red and white and is a beautiful shade to wear to promote nurturing both of self and others, to get in touch with your inner femininity, or to balance your masculine/feminine qualities if you are man. It encourages a healthy and balanced sex drive, as it shares characteristics of red, but too much pink may cause emotional claustrophobia and physical weakness.
Peach
Wearing peach says “I am highly creative and expressive”. This colour shares characteristics with pink and orange.
*When looking up other colour blends simply read for colours that make up that blend, the paler the shade the more subtle the energies, the deeper the shade the more pronounced the energies.
To be healthy we need a blend of colours running through our system on a regular basis. This can be tricky if you have to wear a uniform most of the time. You can however, choose accessories in the appropriate colours, this could be a scarf, tie, underwear, handkerchief, jewellery, etc.
Wearing bright sunny yellow or shocking pink may not be the done thing in a serious office environment, but you could buy a selection of vest tops in a range of colours and wear these under your ordinary clothes. If none of these suggestions are possible you could buy a selection of crystals in a wide range of colours and carry whichever ones you need in your pocket. As you can see there is always a way!

A very interesting and well written article. I think people’s colour preferences change with age. As skin tone and hair colour changes so do the colours we wear. I am a red girl at heart but this is too bright for me these days. Good work.
