A good detox will include mostly fresh vegetables and fruit, as well as small amounts of poultry, lean meat and fish. Brwon rice, rice noodles, legumes and non-wheat grains should also be included. Avoid wheat, dairy, processed food and drinks, alcohol, fatty meats, bread and caffeine. You should also be drinking a lot of water, ideally at least 8 glasses a day.

The first step is to reduce your intake of caffeine, alcohol and processed foods in the weeks leading up to your detox. This will make giving these things up completely less painful. The key to maintaining your detox program lies in ridding your fridge and pantry of anything not allowed before you start so you won’t be tempted. Replace banned foods with fresh fruit and vegies and plenty of water.

The first few days are the hardest. You may get headaches and have low energy levels. Your body is so used to lot’s of caffeine and sugar it takes time to adjust. Once this period is over however you should feel energized beyond your wildest dreams. If your struggling to make it just a few days in forget about doing it for weeks and just focus on getting 10 days down. Once you get to this point you’ll be feeling good and motivated to continue.

If you fall off the wagon don’t give up. Jump right back into the detox. If you have to get takeout go for Asian or Indian, with lot’s of vegetables. When eating out ask for items without sauces and dressings and stick to water or juice.
