How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Is there a magic pill that will close our minds and send us off into dreamland?
Usually, as we get older, sleep becomes a more difficult thing to come by. Our job, our bills and we all have them, plays a toll on our ability to nod off most nights for many people. Is there a magic pill that will close our minds and send us off into dreamland ?
Natural Or Drug Induced ?
For the truly serious individual with almost nightly sleeping problems, it is suggested by most homeopathic physicians to use natural methods for getting truly restful sleep throughout the night. Some approaches are using mineral combinations, such as calcium/magnesium in lower than normal daily requirements. Camomile tea is another relaxant when used soon before bedtime. Velarian root is used by many people who are “wound up” at the end of a long work day and sometimes just use it about a half hour before retirement, though the bottle says to take a dose 3 times a day.
Other Simple “Sleepy Time” Approaches
- A medium size, medium ripe banana, about 1/2hour before bed
- A 1/2 regular glass of slightly warmed (in microwave) low-fat milk just before bed
- A combination and more potent mixture:1-cup of low-fat, or skim milk , 1-medium size, medium ripe banana , 2 tablespoons of honey
- 4-) For those individuals who are able to regulate their sleep time, try to retire at a set time each night and try to stick with it each night, for instance, retire at 10:00 P.M., wake at 6:00 A.M..
Things You Should Try Not Doing…
- Exercise just before bedtime
- Intake of alcoholic beverages, or large amounts of liquids just before retirement
- Taking any over the counter or even prescription drug for sleep
The simple reason for this is that you may awaken and go to work, but still be under the influence, or may even awaken during the night and having driven many miles in your auto without any recollection of the incidence. There has also been some individuals who have experienced pronounced allergic reactions, something that will not happen when using “natural” means of inducing sleep.

Sleep depravation is a commom problem but I try not to stress too much about it! Sometimes I think that I need to get some rest and I will take a ‘valerian root’ capsule and have camomile tea or hot chocolate.
