Meditate Whilst at Work

How to successfully meditate with objects and use your eyes to create a simple but effective meditation practice, whilst at work or at home.

Fitting meditation into your busy lifestyle can be difficult at the best of times, but did you know that by learning how to focus on objects in your every day life; when at work, travelling or even waiting for your name to be called at an appointment, can have just the same relaxing impact as when meditating solely in a quiet room or specific place you have chosen.

You see meditating with every day objects, no matter where you are, can be just as beneficial as when practicing at home.

The key being your focus within; how to focus within and constantly remember to bring yourself back to your breath when your mind begins to wander.

The best way to meditate with an every day object is to begin by imagining you are beginning to fall asleep, just by opening and closing your eyes and allowing your gaze to fall and soften, open and close, open and soften your gaze, whilst at the same time staying aware of your breath; always come back to your breath, your breath is your safety net and helps you remain focus within, no matter what is happening around you.

If in a waiting room, skip the open and close technique and just let your eyes gaze over and soften, whilst focusing on your breath and chosen object.

The Object

There are many different objects you can meditate upon, all of which will make you feel differently inside.

Experiment with as many different objects as you like and make notes of how each one makes you feel differently each time you practice.

I.E Flower arrangement, ornament, picture, pencil, trees, candle etc

Script

Choose and place your chosen object in front of you a candle, ornament, flowers, picture etc

Then when you are ready, make yourself comfortable and begin to focus on your breathing, notice the rise and fall of your rib cage and slowly focus within, letting go off all your thoughts, then when you are ready allow your eyes to soften and close and begin to image you are falling asleep.

Whilst at the same time, slowly focusing upon your object and opening and closing your eyes, remembering each time you do, to allow your gaze to soften, whilst staying focused on your chosen object.

Remember they should be no inner commentary or thoughts, you are now feeling and not thinking.

Focus on your object, really look at your object, as your gaze softens, notice every detail about it and let yourself feel the emotional response in your body as you do.

Then when your are ready slowly close your eyes and visualise your object in your minds eye, remember all details of your object, keep visualising within your own inner mind, whilst also keeping your mind silent.

At this point, you may have begun to experience certain emotions or feelings within, take notice of how your body is responding as you keep your image firmly visualised in your mind, nothing else matters, just how you feel right now, in your own moment, your own time, your own space, this is all that matters, how you are feeling right now.

And then when you fully open your eyes, write down your experience if you so wish and then carry on with your now very relaxing day.
