Broadly, there are only two directions, IN or OUT. Going deeper or moving further away. Looking closer or looking far. There are two states, focused or unfocused. There are two ways of being, engaged or unengaged. Either we can look into our inside, our own mind, and our own thoughts or we can look outside to others, their behavior and actions. Micro Meditation is to gaze inside. The opposite of Micro Meditation is Macro Meditation where one looks externally the big picture and observe the whole universe.
The benefits of Micro Meditation is the cultivation of self-awareness. Who you really are. What do you actually want. What do you truly like. What really bothers you. What bothers you might or might not bother others. What interests you. What makes you happy. What makes you alive. What gives you meaning. What defines your purpose. This self-awareness leads to self-discovery which culminates into self-actualization, the very top of the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
On July 4th 2012, scientists came close to discover the presence of “Higgs Particle” or “Higgs Bason”, a fundamental particle, popularly named as “God” particle. With current information this is the particle, the Universe is made of. This particle does not have sub-structure which means it can not be broken down further. Higgs particle was theorized in 1964 by physicist Peter Higgs to explain how fundamental particles such as “electrons” and “quarks” get the property of “mass”. The discovery of Higgs particle will be an important landmark and will move the whole humanity into more knowledge of physical world. Though once we reach to this deeper level, there might be further deeper levels to go to.
Massive energy is needed to create Higgs particle as compared to other fundamental particles. Experiments to show whether Higgs bason exists or not began in 1980s, after around 25 years of the theory. In 2008 the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the most powerful particle accelerator till now, was designed especially for this experiment. After around 50 years in 2011 there were hints of the existence of Higgs particle. So things can take really a long time to come in fruition. Success requires patience, perseverance, and progress. Once we make a progress forward, we permanently move ahead.
Similarly in Micro Meditation we go deeper in our mind and thought. In one form of this meditation we pick just one thought which is probably bothering us the most. And we go deeper into that thought, breaking down all the layers in between. Disturbance of thoughts many a times attract people towards meditation. In another form, we take some positive thought and internalize that going again deeper into the intention. Micro Meditation in that way a combination of contemplative and mindfulness meditation. We create conducive environment for mind by getting into the relaxed state through the breathing. The calmer we get, the deeper and the more effective the meditative experience becomes.
