Milk Thistle is Your Friend
Milk Thistle is an herb that goes by many names and has just as many, if not more uses. Known also as Mary Thistle, Lady’s Thistle, and Legalon, it has been used as a liver detoxifier and anti-viral.
Some of my friends have used Milk Thistle as a supplement to their hangover cure, and it does indeed help move toxins from alcohol consumption out of the body much more quickly. If you happen to ever find yourself poisoned by Amanita mushrooms, even the traditional medical community will prescribe milk thistle as the cure due to its efficacy in cleansing the body. It is attributed with cancer fighting properties and is an anti-oxidant. It is also an anti-inflammatory and immune system booster.
Anyone with liver problems of any kind will benefit from supplementing their standard medical treatment with milk thistle. But it can also benefit people who suffer from psoriasis, food allergies, gall bladder problems, and adrenal disorders. Some believe that it may also help reduce cholesterol.
Because milk thistle may also interfere with the hormone estrogen it is recommended that women with any reproductive health concerns do not take it, nor should men with prostate cancer. It should also be avoided by anyone with a ragweed allergy, as it may cause an allergic reaction.
As with any herbal supplement, you do want to run it’s regular use by your general practitioner. Me, I’m gonna keep using it to help cure my hangovers.
