My Experience with Alternative Medicine

My first experience with natural medicine was only 5 months ago. There was a lot of chaos at work and I found myself in a very stressful situation.

I was in a position of wanting to quit but at the same time, I did not want my fellow employees to feel like I bailed out on them. Before I knew it, I was stressed out beyond any point I had ever experienced and I was getting depressed. I could make one of two choices. Choice one was to use my medical insurance and begin seeing a therapist who would most likely prescribe me some type of medication that may or may not work on top of having weekly or bi-weekly psychological sessions. Or choice two was to find a way to help myself by using the internet and by using what I have learned since I have started taking classes in alternative medicine. I chose the option to help myself by treating myself.

By treating myself, I had to be tuned in to what my body was trying to tell me. I immediately started taking St. John’s Wart and began practicing meditation. Along with this, I started talking to my husband more about my issues at work, which is something I normally wouldn’t do because I never really wanted to bore him about my work life. After one week I started to notice a difference and my body was responding well to the actions I was taking. I know that had I gone to a doctor of conventional medicine the outcome would have been different. I would have incurred medical costs that I could not bare at the time. Also, I would not have learned as much about myself. I would be too concerned about reacting in a way that the doctor would have expected me to. Lastly, I know I would have been taking medications that my body truly did not need.

Even though I have been treating myself in this situation, I do realize that it is time for me to move on to a calmer lifestyle that I can take the time to enjoy. I love the title I hold at my job but being the type of person that I am, the responsibility is not worth my health. One important thing that I have learned is that I know more about myself and what triggers a great degree of stress in my life. I have also learned how to relax my mind and my body. I don’t regret for a second the decision I made and I would recommend this to anyone.
