The Power of Positivity

In this article, you’ll learn why a positive attitude is beneficial to your life. (Even the secret to a longer life!)

How A Positive Attitude Can Benefit You

“A positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”

These are words to live by. At some point in time, you’ve probably seen a person with a positive attitude; somebody who helps others, who ignores flaws, and is seemingly almost always happy. This is because they think positive thoughts, talk positively, and act positive. They LIVE positively.

The reason you’re reading this is because you want be more positive; to be just like those extremely pleasant people.

Rewards and reasons to have a positive attitude are:

1.                   Chances are, good things will happen more often than not. Let’s say you’re volunteering at a hospital. If you have a positive attitude, you may be rewarded, by having the pure joy of seeing the smiling faces of the people you help. In fact, you may give them hope.

2.                   If you’re positive, people around you will be positive, and want to be around you. When you have a positive attitude, your brain releases serotonin, a hormone that gives you the feeling that you are at ease, or happy. It then relaxes your body, subtly giving your body a more, “I’m in a good mood!” look. People see this body language and react to it, by becoming more relaxed around you, less tense, and more interactive.

3.                   Having a positive attitude can have an extremely positive effect on your work. If you have a positive attitude, your boss will read your body language, (Reason 2), and may possibly promote you. This will cause others to come to you and ask, “How do you do it?”, and so you tell them about the power of positivity. Need I say more?

4.                   It’s been proven that those with a positive attitude live longer, healthier lives. People with a lot of stress, aren’t the happiest people, and they don’t live as long as a happy person. When you’re stressed, you end up destroying certain synapses in the brain, causing you to become more susceptible to depression. When depressed, you eat less, lose a TON of weight, and vice versa. You may also experience various symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, thoughts of suicide, and a feeling of loneliness. By having a positive attitude, your stress levels lower drastically. You maintain a healthy weight, keep your synapses, and don’t die earlier.

5.                   Those with positive attitudes tend to do better in sports and recreational activities, such as, hiking, biking, golf, football, and tennis. If you have a positive attitude, you’re less stressed, think good thoughts, and therefore, have more energy. I’ve run four tests, where two people, one positive, one negative, race forty meters. Both are in the same shape, but have different attitudes. The positive person won every time.

As you can see, there really are no cons to being positive. You either get rewarded, or get rewarded. It’s a win-win situation. So, smile more, think of good things, and have a positively wonderful life!
