Treating Children with Flower Essences

The Bach Flower Remedy is safe and easy to use on children. Here we go step by step on how it is done in a safe way.

Flower essences are ideal for children, as they are gentle and safe, but help positively with the difficult experiences encountered throughout the ups and downs of babyhood, childhood and adolescence. Remember that whenever you are using flower essences you are not in any way replacing conventional medicine, and that a doctor should be consulted for any symptoms of illness, especially in young children.

Using Essences With Children

Children respond very quickly to flower essence therapy, as they tend to express what they feel more openly than adults. However, detailed discussion of problems may be difficult, depending on the age of the child, so it is close observation on the part of the parent that provides the information for choosing suitable essences. Watching them while they play may be helpful, as this is when they will be showing their true natures.
Give treatment when they seem to be “not quite themselves”, and talk to them about how they feel. Perhaps an active child has returned home from school sleepy and with no appetite, when normally she is grabbing a sandwich and dashing out to play with friends. The correctly chosen essence, maybe Clematis in this case, can return her to her usual self, but you might also want to consult a physician.

Dowsing may assist in clarifying the best choice, but it is nice to remember that children may enjoy learning about flower essences and want to help choose their own. Picture cards are also an ideal approach with children, as they respond readily to the striking color images. Presenting the essences as something to help them settle in at school, sleep better or play football better will communicate the benefits on a level they can understand. Children will often remind you when it is time to take the flower drops again. Sometimes, olden children can prove less enthusiastic, so adding essences to juice or mild can ensure they are receiving at least some of their doses.

Treating Babies

Newborns will benefit from 2 drops of Star of Bethlehem for the shock of the birth, especially if it was a particularly traumatic event with medical intervention. You could also add 2 drops of Walnut to help them adjust to their new life outside the womb. Drop these essences onto the crown of their head, or into their first bath. Should further treatment be needed, drop can gain be put in the bath, or on to a breastfeeding mother’s nipples. The mother can also take them herself, so the baby benefits through her milk.
If the baby is bottle-fed, a dosage bottle can be made up without brandy, and 4 drops added to the bottle. Flower essence drops can also be added to massage oil.

Help For Parents

Parenthood can be very stressful, particularly if it is the first time. Tiredness from the birth and broken nights, the sudden responsibility, the onset of post-natal depression, all these difficulties can take their toll. Flower essences are a godsend at this time and can help to make parenthood more enjoyable. If there is a difficulty with a child, it is helpful to treat the parents as well, as the child could be reacting to their stresses.
