Turmeric: A Great Boon From God
Turmeric is a great plant, useful in many ways.
Turmeric, also known as Haldi, is a spice widely used in Indian cooking. It gives a distinct flavour and a yellow colour when added to food. It has been used by Indian Medical Practitioners of Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha for healing. It is also used in cosmetic preparations.
Medicinal Uses
Turmeric is a blood purifier and an antiseptic substance. It is loaded with anti-oxidants and thus its regular intake protects us from jaundice, cancer, tumors, Alzheimer’s disease etc.
Intestinal Disorders: The juice of turmeric powder in milk is very effective for intestinal disorders.
Anaemia: Turmeric is a rich source of iron. A teaspoon of raw turmeric juice with a bit of honey will help us overcome Anaemia.
Asthma: A teaspoon of turmeric powder with a glass of warm milk helps in fighting phlegm and cough and relieves asthmatic stress.
Wounds: Applying a paste of turmeric mixed with sweet lime juice is a good first aid for cuts, bleeding, burns, ulcer or swellings.
Besides, turmeric also helps us to get rid of Round worms and intestinal disorders etc.
As a cosmetic
Turmeric is currently used in the formulation of sunscreens. Turmeric gives a glow to the skin and keeps away harmful bacteria. It deters hair growth and is a good antiseptic. It has been considered as auspicious cosmetic traditionally and has been used by women all over India. But, modern day women shy away from its use because it leaves a strong yellow stain. But, turmeric has proved itself to be nature’s precious gift!
