Who Uses Hyperbaric Chambers?
The use of hyperbaric medicine is not clear in the United States. The media implies a hyperbaric chamber is used by people with strange behavior.
Recently, the death of Michael Jackson gave reporters the opportunity to report his strange behavior over the years. One of the things they mentioned is his use of a hyperbaric chamber. This type of unsolicited reference to hyperbaric oxygen listed along with his abnormal behavior is very confusing to people who are not familiar with hyperbaric medicine.
Hyperbaric Medicine is a very effective way to promote healing. It is used in the United States as the primary treatment for fourteen indications approved by the FDA. Outside the United States, Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy is used in the recovery for stroke patients and many more conditions. Despite the tremendous value of hyperbaric medicine, the medical professionals in the United States seem reluctant to use it.
Money talks and it buys the best. So, if there is anything positive about the media mentioning hyperbaric chambers and Michael Jackson; it should be the fact that the chambers are too expensive for the average “Joe” to own and might be considered a “well kept secret” from the general public.
Keep in mind, money does talk. Pharmacial companies cannot package oxygen in a pill form. So, they depend on regulation from the FDA to limit hyperbaric oxygen therapy. They are also able to influence physicians to prescribe drugs rather than prescribing hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment done by placing the patient in a decompression chamber where he breathes pure, 100% oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure. The treatments are painless and administered by trained professionals. The amount of oxygen we breathe at normal atmospheric pressure is very little, but, (HBOT) can elevate the level to 2000%.
Any condition associated with hypoxia (lack of oxygen on the cellular level) will respond to HBOT. Patients benefit from increased infection control and faster healing of a wide range of conditions. The concentration of oxygen dissolved in the bloodstream is raised and all body fluids including the lymph and cerebrospinal fluids are infused with the healing benefits of this molecular oxygen. It can also reach bone and tissues which are inaccessible to red blood cell, enhance white blood cell function, and promote the formation of new capillary and peripheral blood vessels. The use of HBOT is so limited; however, the effects are so amazing!
