Answers to Top Beauty Questions
Frequently-asked questions about beauty concerns.
22. My lips are always dry. Should I be wearing lipstick? If so, what kind?
When lips are dry, use lip balm that doesn’t contain camphor, a common ingredient that is meant to dry and heal open sores in the mouth area. Carry balm with you and apply as necessary. Try shea butter or medicated Chapstick.
23. Do women need more or less makeup as they get older?
It is perhaps a question of the kind of makeup rather than its quantity. Natural coloring fades as we age: lip color becomes less pronounced, skin tone becomes less vibrant. It is important to wear a more subtle color and keep skin extremely moisturized.
24. What is the trick to blending foundation into the neck so it does not look like a mask?
If you blend foundation to avoid a visible break between your face and neck, you are wearing the wrong color of foundation. The right foundation color should disappear when you apply it to your cheek.
25. Can stretch marks really disappear with the use of creams?
A stretch mark is an actual scar in the dermis or second layer of the skin, a response to the stretching forces of pregnancy or sudden weight loss or weight gain. When the collagen, the strong supporting network of the dermis, is pulled almost to the breaking point, the skin very wisely starts to lay down new layers of collagen fibers to add strength. This results in the classic stretch mark we all know and hate. How do you get rid of stretch marks then? You don’t. There are no magic creams or lotions that work. They become less obtrusive with time. If it really bothers you, know that plastic surgeons can do wonders to hide them.
26. How can I make my foundation look more natural?
Remember that foundation should be used sparingly, meaning not too much, especially if you have good skin. A good skincare routine, as well as sufficient sleep, regular exercise, a healthy diet, and drinking lots of water all contribute to a prettier complexion. Be sure to buy foundation that matches your skin tone.
27. Where do it test the foundation color I want to buy?
Test the foundation on the inside of the forearm — skin tone is closes to neck color there because it is protected from UV damage. Makeup should blend with the skin color of the neck.
28. How can I tell if I have a warm or cool skin tone?
Hold a good-sized piece of silver paper or fabric up to your face, then do the same with a gold piece. Warm skin tones will sit best with the gold paper while cool ones will be flattered by the silver. It is good to establish which of the two descriptions applies to you because it will assist you in choosing the right makeup colors.
