Body Care and Personal Hygiene Habit

This article contains the steps to follow to maintain a personal hygiene habit to prevent the entry of diseases into the body.

     Human beings need to take note of some important personal hygiene habits to make the body be in good condition and prevent the contact or spread of infections. The body is covered with the skin which can only act as an effective barrier, preventing the entry of micro-organisms into it if it is healthy and clean. A healthy skin can be maintained by taking sufficient vitamin A in our daily diet.

     In some cases when we sweat, the body experiences an unpleasant odour due to the stickiness of dirt and dust to the skin. Such a dirty skin becomes an ideal breeding place for micro-organisms and ectoparasites like fleas, lice and even mites. The skin can be kept clean by bathing with soap and water for at least once in a day. By washing and scrubbing the skin regularly, we remove dust, sweat, micro-organisms, oily secretions and dead skin cell from the skin. All these help to avoid skin infection and contribute to our general well-being and gives us a pleasant appearance, making us socially acceptable to others in he community.

  • Also, to avoid any kind of infection, take note and pay special attention to the following points:
  • Brush teeth after meals and go for regular dental check-ups to prevent tooth infection.
  •  Clean between toes to prevent fungal infections; keep toe-nails short always and wear appropriate shoes outdoors to prevent hookworm and tetanus infections.
  • Keep finger nails short and clean clean always to prevent the harbouring of micro-organisms under the nail.
  •  Wash hair regularly and take good care of the armpit and groins.
  •  Wash hand before eating and after using the toilet.
  • Never rub the eyes with dirty fingers and learn to read books with fairly large prints and under correct lighting condition.
  •  Do not use the personal materials of people with contagious diseases.
  • Keep your food covered always and boil drinking water.
  • Sleep under mosquito net if there are mosquitoes in your area or location.
  • In general, keep the house and surroundings clean always.
  •  With the appropriate and effective practice of the above points, on the care of the body and personal hygiene habit, different kinds of body infections can be avoided.
