Dread Maintenance

Hair growth or spiritual growth? You decide.

Anyone who’s ever had their hair dreaded knows the hair doesn’t automatically lock.  It takes months of twisting and re-twisting before a small section of the hair actually locks together.  With proper maintenance the hair continues to grow and the new growth has to be re-twisted.  Over time the hair begins to lock and the shape can not be separated, but to keep the locks looking well groomed you must continue to maintain the new growth by re-twisting.

Much like our Christian walk.  In the beginning we accept Christ as our Lord and savior.  We believe that he died and rose for our sins, and we want to live a life pleasing to Him.  This isn’t something that automatically happens.  We have to get the instruction manual (bible) and stay in prayer to receive his guidance and proper maintenance.  Little by little he begins to change and conform us into the image he wants us to be.  This is an ongoing process, but as the days, weeks, and months progress we reach new levels of growth in him and know with out a shadow of a doubt that nothing can separate us from his love.

Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  ( Romans 8:39)

  1. I really liked the way you used the act of getting your hair put into dreads as an analogy and a symbol for our growing love and awareness of Jesus. Excellent move there, Yolie. Congrats! You deserve it. God bless.
