Experts Choose Best Sunscreen
It can be difficult to know which sunscreen is best when we are face to face with endless brands and SPF numbers. For our benefit ,here is the choice of skin care experts.
Exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB ray’s cause cancer and increases aging of skin. It is so important to protect your skin year-round from the sun’s harmful ray’s. When heading for the beach you need even more than normal protection. It can be an intimidating process to pick the best sun screen from all the products on the shelves, but these dermatology experts, Mary Ruth Buchness, MD, David Colbert, MD, and Laurie Polis, MD have processed all the information and given us the very best choices out there.
Best Face Sunscreen:Neutrogena Age Shield Face SPF 55 ($10.99)
Your face is closest to the sun and gets more sun than any other part of your body so the experts selected the sunscreen that is gentle, oil free, lasts longer, and the antioxidants for free-radical defense makes this one a winner.
Best Body Sunscreen:Neutrogena Dry-touch Sunblock Lotion SPF 45 ($9.99)
This sunscreen melts into your skin and provides protection for 60 to 90 minutes. It’s light, non greasy, fast absorbing, and has a tint that disappears as you rub it in.
Best Active Formula: Coppertone Sport Continuous Spray SPF 70+ ($9.99)
This sunscreen is sweat-water resistant and includes ingredients to help keep it out of your eyes. It is non sticky and dries quickly. It wins high praise from all the experts.
Best Kids Sunscreen: Coppertone Kids Continuous Spray 70+($9.99)
This sunscreen dries quickly and is perfect for a kid on the run. It’s light and dries clear. You need to apply every two hours to ensure protection. It contains glycerin and aloe to combat drying effects of alcohol.
Best Lip Protection: Chap stick Ultra SPF 30 ($2.99)
It’s lightweight, non greasy, and has a fresh smell.
Anything higher than SPF 30 isn’t going to make a lot of difference in your UV protection . SPF15 gives you 93% protection and SPF30 fends off 97%, at SPF 50 you get 99% protection.
Use both lotion and spray. Apply lotion first, to reapply use a spray. A spray doesn’t have to be rubbed in, and you can cover a larger area in less time.

For me the best sunscreen is not being exposed in the sunshine at all. We never knew where the ozone hole is directly pointed to. Anyhow nice tips.

Good piece: don’t forget to add that it should be applied 30-60 minutes before going out!
Thanks,

If its safe for kids, its probably even safer for adults, although maybe some of us feel silly using kid lotion, it probably better for us some how.

Thanks Ruby, I didn’t realise that anything above SPF30 didn’t make a lot of difference, very good article.

Great advice, dear Ruby, as usual! My impression is that it is more and more difficult to get protected, the sun maybe is brighter than before, especially by the sea.
Thank you, take care,
François

I always wonder why they still bother to make all the higher SPF’s. It’s more of a marketing scheme than beneficial to the public. I don’t buy anything higher than SPF 15 as I don’t think the higher cost is justified.

Great, informative article, Ruby.
The Neutrogena Dry-touch Sunblock Lotion will cost the equivalent of around $17 here in the UK.
The strange thing about all this is that the more we know about the effects of the sun, the less notice we take. Before the 1950’s, a suntan wasn’t looked upon as fashionable, only the coarse labouring society who worked outside in the open air had tans!

I knew a girl who was from California and was only about 25 at the time. She had a great tan because she laid on the beach, in the sun everyday. Problem was her skin was terribly wrinkly and it made her look old. Too much sun is a bad thing. I am not sure if she used sunscreen.

Good tips. A big, shady hat is also a good plan; and a long-sleeved white shirt if you are terribly susceptible to sun burn.

Thanks guys and gals, I appreciate you every one.
Westbrooks, I have seen the same thing and one woman I am thinking of in particular. She is brown as a nut and she looks so much older than she actually is. She floats in the pool all day on a rubber raft rubbing oil into her skin. I have mentioned to her how bad the sun is for her (none of my business) and she says she likes to be brown.
Daisy, A big hat is the very best thing along with long sleeves. although it’s too late for me now.i sunned a lot when I was younger.
B, good for you, you should be proud, although I don’t know how you did it.
