Five Musts for Healthy, Clear Skin

While you’re working out at the gym, toning your muscles for summer, don’t forget to take care of the largest human organ — the epidermis. Being good to your skin should be an integral part of any healthy lifestyle. As our protective outer barrier, the skin is the first layer of defense between us and the various harmful elements we encounter on a daily basis.

Skin is also an important indicator of how healthy we are in general, and a dull or otherwise poor complexion may point toward other deficiencies in our personal care routines.  So whether you search out Proactive coupons or recipes for honey-avocado facemasks, focusing on healthy skin can ensure you make a great first impression with your complexion.

Water, Water, Water

If there’s one thing you can do immediately to improve your skin, it’s drink more water. This is really the simplest thing — it’s free, we all have access to it — but most of us don’t get our required 8 glasses a day. Come up with a new trick each day to get yourself in the habit of drinking more. Brink a cup or thermos to work to help measure the amount you imbibe. Set up reminders for yourself to drink and refill your water every two hours.

Start adding water to other drinks, like juice. Allow yourself other beverages, like coffee or soda, only after you’ve drunk one or two glasses of water. Forgo ordering drinks and stick with water when you’re out at a restaurant. As basic as it sounds, it can be hard for people to get into the water-drinking habit, but the payoff — a bright and healthy complexion — is immediate. Within a week or two of flushing out your system with a liter of water or more a day, the average person should see improvements in his or her skin.

Eat Right and Sleep Tight

A healthy diet packed with nutrients and vitamins will help improve even the roughest complexion. While it’s definitely and old wives’ tale that foods like chocolate and pizza are an instant recipe for zits, our bodies are complicated machines and, make no mistake, anything we put in them impacts how they function. Everything you eat has some effect on your skin.

Eating take-out every night and wondering why your skin looks sallow and irritated? There’s definitely a connection there. Make sure you’re getting your fruits and veggies and everyone will be able to see your healthful eating habits on your face. Everything you do to take care of yourself — taking vitamins, getting a good night’s sleep, avoiding stress — will help your skin repair itself.
