Moisturizer

Information about moisturizers – the best brands, price, etc.

What’s available on the market:

There are lots of different types and brands of moisturizer on the market.

They all have different features, for example: Tinted, Added sunscreen, super hydrating, and aloe vera. Different brands can have a few different moisturizers in their range of skin care.

For example Avon has anew intensive age treatment moisturiser, hydrofirming lift, ageless results, Accolade, vitamin E cream, maximum moisture super hydrating gel, moisture shield tinted cream and rich moisture face cream. These are all moisturizers with a range of features.

  • Day moisturizers Increase surface firmness of face and neck, easily sink into skin, and super moisturize the skin.
  • Nighttime moisturizers have a richer formula which helps lock in moisture and nourish as you sleep, when skin is most receptive.
  • Tinted moisturizers are daytime moisturisers with a sun-kissed tint to help brighten up your skin and cover up red splotches.
  • Anti-aging moisturizers are for older people, and help to fight the signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, discolorations, sagging skin, enlarged pores, dull skin and sun damage).

Special Features:

Every brand has different ‘special features’, that’s what makes them all unique.

Here’s just a few:

Avon Moisture shield tinted cream is a tinted moisturiser. It doesn’t cover up your skin like foundation, but adds a sun-kissed glow to your skin and evens out your skin tone. It also protects your skin from the sun with SPF 15.

It can be used over your other moisturiser if you prefer not to use it by itself.

  1. Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion is part of the Clinique 3-step skin care system. It can be used for skin anywhere from very dry, to combination. It softens, smoothes and improves skin texture.
  2. Olay touch of sun daily facial moisturiser is part of the OLAY touch of sun range, a range designed to give your face and body a deep sun-kissed glow. This moisturiser is especially good because unlike tinted cream, it actually assists your skin in forming a natural tan without the help of harmful UV rays. It even has SPD 15 to make sure you don’t get burnt.
  3. Avon rich moisture face cream is just a simple day to day moisturiser for normal to dry skin. It is used for people who don’t have the money or time to buy all these fancy $50 face creams, or people who just don’t need them. It is enriched with wheat protein and soybean to nourish the skin.
  4. Clarins Hydra Quench Cream is more in the upper market of skin care. It is ultra-moisturizing skin care with a fine, penetrating texture that satisfies all of the needs of normal to dry skin, regardless of variations in temperature or climate.

Importance of the Special Features

The different features in different brands can make a huge difference in what your skin turns out to be like as you get older. You need to find a moisturiser that fits the needs of your own skin, for example, you wouldn’t use a tinted moisturiser if you have a dark tan already, you would use a moisturiser with added UV protection to stop you from burning and losing your beautiful tan.

As you get older, you would use an anti aging lotion which eliminates signs of aging. During different times of the year, or as you get older, you tend to change which moisturiser you use. This is good, because your skin’s needs change as your environment and age change.

It all makes the difference to your skin, and you have to look after your skin as much as you can while you’re a teenager so you don’t end up with horrible skin as an adult.

Difference in Quality Between Brands

Moisturiser can range in price and quality anywhere from a basic cheap one, $5, to a really expensive age transforming one, $60.

Unlike some things in life, higher price actually means higher quality, and is completely worth it. Which brand you use completely depends on you, so does how much you spend.

Cheap moisturisers like Avon Rich Moisture Face Cream are cheap and simple. But for some people that’s all they need.

Middle range moisturisers such as Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion are great for nearly any skin. They are not too cheap and not to expensive, and are usually great products.

The more expensive brands like Clarins are worth the money. They may be expensive, but they are excellent quality and are leave your skin feeling like an angel’s.

Brands within the price ranges also vary in quality, but are generally just as good as each other, with some exceptions.

Where the Products Are Made

Skin care products and moisturisers are made all over the world.

Clinique is made in U.S.A, Avon is made in China, Clarins is made in France, Guerlain is made in France, Olay is made in Ireland, clean and clear is made in France and Johnson’s is made in Greece.

Products that are made in China are cheaper to make, therefore they are sold cheaper. Products made in countries like France, or Greece are more expensive to make, so that’s where the expensive products come from.

It doesn’t really make where they are made, because even though they are made in different countries, they are under strict guidelines by the companies that own the brand, so you know that they will be good quality if it is a good brand.

Purchasing

Moisturiser is used everyday, so it is sold practically everywhere.

You can buy it in convenience stores (7-11, Coles express), Specialty stores ( the body shop), Department Stores (Myer, David Jones), Discount variety Stores ( Target, Kmart, Big W), mail order (Avon), Internet shopping (ebay) and Supermarkets (Woolworths, Coles, bi-lo, Aldi),. It being sold in almost all shops makes it easily accessible and easy to find.

Ethical and Environmental Issues

  • There is a lot of fuss and talk about animal testing (testing products on animals). Not many companies use animal testing any more, but some do.
  • Some ingredients in moisturiser may come from endangered animals or plants. For example, some perfumes in moisturisers come from endangered plants. Also, sometimes animal fat is used in skin care products.
  • The packaging used is also an issue. Way too much packaging is used for moisturiser. They have it in a box and a bottle, when all they need is the bottle. This is a waste of the Earth’s non-renewable natural resources, like plastic.
  • Child labour could be used in poor countries. Children may be forced to work      long hours packaging, or mixing ingredients. This completely overlooks human rights.

Teens and Skincare

All teenagers need different moisturisers, but most teenagers tend to have oily skin in and zits in their T-zone. Teenagers need a skin care routine suitable for oily skin, that washes away oil, and prevents it coming back. Teenagers are best off using a moisturiser that is for oily skin which is not at all oily. Girls will probably like a tinted moisturiser, which will even out their skin tone, or a self tanning moisturiser which will give them a sun kissed glow. Boys on the other hand just want to clean their skin.

For teenage girls, I think that the best brand is Bellaboo. It is a range of skincare products designed for teenage girls, by teenage girls. It is perfect for keeping your skin clean, exfoliated, and nourished at the same time, and it also smells gorgeous.

For teenage boys, I would recommend the clean and clear range. It is especially designed for teenagers, to keep your skin clean and clear of zits and pimples.

Both of these products are in the middle price range, $10-30 per item, so teenagers can actually afford them.
