Skin and Beauty Home Remedies that Work using Household Products
- Aspirin: US Consumers spend more than $135 million annually on wart treatments. But, the pesky wart can be zap best with crushed aspirin in a little amount of water to make a paste. Apply the aspirin paste on the wart then wrap it in cellophane tape or any other type of tape that won’t allow air in,” says Rodney Basler, M.D., a dermatologist and assistant professor of internal medicine at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. The salicylic acid in aspirin has a peeling effect, but like commercial ointments, it may cause irritation on sensitive skin.
- Castor Oil: Age spots are caused by excessive sun exposure. But these dark, blotchy spots known as adult freckles or liver spots can fade by applying Castor oil on the spots twice a day for a month or two. In addition, a bandage with Castor oil applied over the lesions at nighttime may speed improvement.
- Duct tape and Emery board: These two household products are not just for packing boxes and doing your nails. The two, in combination, are efficient, non-irritating, non-threatening warts remover. Cover the wart with duct tape and leave it on for a day or two. After removing the tape, peel away the softened skin or file it down with emery board. It is best to repeat the process until the wart is flat.
- Egg White: Egg whites are not only for the health-conscious, but also for the beauty-addict. Facial mask recipe that use whipped egg whites unclogs and narrows facial pores. Smooth on face egg white homemade mask and leave it for 20 minutes then rinse with warm water. “Egg white has a drying effect that can reduce pimples and help skin feel smoother,” says D’ Anne Kleinsmith, M.D., a dermatologist from West Bloomfield, MI.
- Honey: Honey makes a sterile, painless and effective wound dressing for burn wounds. Honey has anti-bacterial action, low pH, high viscosity, hygroscopic effect, and hydrogen peroxide content that will promote healing after it is applied over the burnt area with some gauze. Honey provides burn wounds a moist environment, removes pain and aids healing without scarring.
- Ice: While Benzoyl Peroxide is the best weapon to treat pimples, a cube of ice is useful and practical when a small rosy blemish starts to grow on the face. Apply ice to the pimple for a few seconds to half hour until it subsides. Also, try a moist hot compress for a few minutes every hour to flush it out.
- Lemon: Hyper pigmentation around the base of your neck and underarms are results of dead skin accumulation, use of deodorants and perfumes. To get rid of embarrassing dark areas safely and naturally, rub lemon slices on the skin or make a paste using 1 tsp of lime juice, 1 tsp of cucumber juice and a pinch of turmeric powder. Apply it on affected areas and rinse after 20 minutes. Do this regularly to lighten ugly pigmentation of the skin. Since the acid in lemon makes skin dry, moisturize the skin with Vitamin E- based lotion.
- Milk: A glass of cold milk is a nutritional powerhouse. In addition, it can be a blessing when the redness and itchiness of eczema or contact dermatitis gets annoying. The high amount of lactic acid in milk penetrates the skin and that penetration makes loosens up and removes dead skin cells that are on the surface of your skin. John F. Romano, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City and dermatology professor at Cornell Medical Center, suggests a compress of ice-cold milk over the affected areas four times a day for five to 10 minutes at a time. When the cloth starts to get too warm and dry, dip, again, the compress in the icy cold milk.
- Mouthwash: Traditional or mild cases of dandruff, caused by over activity of oil glands, can be treated by applying mouthwash Listerine straight to the scalp. The antiseptic property of the breath freshener does it, however, do not use when the skin is broken as the Listerine can be irritating. Another remedy is applying two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to the area, and leaving it on from 15 minutes to three hours before shampooing. It is the acid in the vinegar that helps bring the scalp back into chemical balance.
- Nail Polish: About 35-40% of the population is sensitive to nickel and other metals found in watches and custom jewelries. But a few strokes of clear nail polish can prevent metal from getting in contact with the human skin, which can cause metal allergy knows as jewelry dermatitis. Coat the piece of jewelry with clear finger nail polish very often to prevent any metal-to-skin contact.
- Onion syrup: Hoarseness and laryngitis can be treated with a gargle made from onion syrup, honey and lemon. Boil three large onions in five cups of water. Simmer until syrupy, then strain. Mix six tablespoonful of the syrup with warm water, a tablespoon of honey and a dash of lemon to sip. The syrup leaves a warm, moist feeling that gently, slowly clears hoarseness.
- Tea-tree oil: Some people swear by vinegar or salt-water soaks as effective home remedies for athlete’s foot. However, natural medicine expert Andrew Well, M.D., says the best bet is tea-tree oil lightly applied to the dry, crackly areas of the skin up to four times a day. Soak a cotton ball with tea tree oil then rub between toe fingers for immediate relief from itching or burning and for fighting off the fungal infection.
- Vaseline: Vaseline hydrates the skin and protects it from the harshness of soaps. A daily regime of cleaning and moisturizing with Vaseline is a good cure for dry skin or cracked heels. Before bedtime, soak the feet in warm soapy water for about 15 minutes. Then rinse and pat dry. Mix one teaspoon Vaseline with lemon juice. Rub this mixture onto the cracked heels until thoroughly absorbed. Repeat beauty care daily until visible results are obtained.
- Vinegar: A splash of cool vinegar can be a welcome tonic to sunburn. Dilute one part vinegar in three parts water and apply to any sunburn—as long as it is not blistering or near the eyes—to help reduce pain and discomfort, says John E. Wolf, Jr., M.D., professor and chair of dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
- Water: Fasting and colon cleansing are not required for detoxification or even recommended. Instead, drink more water to detoxify naturally. Water is the best detoxifying agent for the body. Get in the habit of taking a drink of water on the hour, every two hours.
Long gone are the days when drugs were deemed to be the best for our bodies. The realization of the expensive cost of manufactured drugs, and the side effects it brings upon the body make consumers consider DIY old fashioned home remedies known to humans since early times.
Skin & beauty care home remedies are simple, with no side effects, chemicals, and are inexpensive. Besides the above listed home remedies, there are many other amazing skin and beauty home care that promises a brand new day with better skin. However, like what dermatologists say, as they offer their own retinol and collagen preparations, keep concentration low to avoid unwanted effects of benefits at all.
