Tips to Remove Your Tan Naturally

Sometimes we find ourselves exposed in the sun, for a long period of time, without any sun block. Don’t worry about that dark patch on your skin. Here are some time-tested methods to remove your tan naturally.

Tanning occurs due to the presence of melanin. Melanin keeps excessive ultraviolet rays from burning the skin. Exposure to sunlight causes the skin to produce more melanin, resulting in a  suntan, a temporary change in skin color.

  1. Exfoliate

  2. Melanin-rich cells continually move toward the surface, where they are sloughed in about a month. To speed up this process of removing the dead cells, try exfoliating twice a week. Any exfoliating product should be able to scrub off the outer layer of dead cells. Since we are doing it mechanically, it is advisable to moisturize daily.

     Tip: For a home made quick exfoliating scrub, mix a few drops of milk with five tablespoons of sugar.

  3. Cucumbers and Sandalwood

  4. Both cucumber and sandalwood are natural products that help in cooling and soothing the skin. In cases of sunburns using both will be effective. Mix the cucumber juice with sandalwood powder to form a paste. Apply it as a thin coating over the skin.

     Tip: For cooling and soothing the skin, I personally recommend aloe vera. Cut the leaf and apply it directly.

  5. Protection

  6. Further exposure to sun will definitely not aid in the removal of the sun tan. Use a sun block and cover your exposed body parts. Wearing full sleeves and scarves will definitely help.

    But then, since these methods do take some time, (usually two weeks) its better to be prepared for the sunny days!
