War Against Acne

This article deals with tips for maintaining healthy skin, some basic facts about acne and common myths. Though, not a doctor myself, I have several doctors in the family and have discussed with them before publishing this article.

The fight against acne is not always easy, as sometimes it can be very severe.About a few decades ago people believed that it was a problem only teenagers faced. This is not true anymore. Scientific evidence shows that due to our stress filled lifestyle we can get acne/pimples at any point in their lives. But there are certain steps that we can follow to help reduce acne and maintain healthy skin.

It is very important to drink lots of fluids, water being the best. This is because it helps flush out the toxins from our body. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is important too as they contain anti-oxidants and this helps fight infection. It is also important to keep ones skin clean. Using a good cleanser based on your skin type is important. Also, if the acne is acute it is good to visit a dermatologist who can prescribe some topical medication. The sooner the better.Another tip, never ever pop a pimple. It will most definitely leave a pit.

There are a number of factors that can lead to acne.

For a lot of us, we face this issue during our teens due to hormonal changes. But now we see that people get acne even in their 30s and 40s.This is mainly due to the changes in the lifestyle pattern. Stress, lack of sleep ,bad eating habits etc. are all responsible.A number of women face acne related issues during pregnancy, due to hormonal changes that their body is going through.People with oily skin are prone to acne, as compared to people with normal or dry skin. This is because in case of people with oily skin the sebum or oil clogs the pores in the skin and attracts dirt.

There are a lot of myths around, why a person gets acne.

One very common myth is that if a person eats mangoes he/she will get acne. There is no scientific backing behind this. The reason people believe in this myth is simply because, mangoes grow in summer and that is when people get more acne due to excessive heat. The explanation is as simple and scientific as that.Another myth is that if someone eats very hot/spicy food the person is more likely to get acne. This again has no scientific evidence. All you get out of eating spicy food is a possible heartburn!Yet another myth is that chocolates. This again is wrong.

So the next time someone says a particular food causes acne, I suggest do some research or better consult a physician to get the facts straight….If you enjoyed this article, you might like: Drink Herbal Green Tea & Fight Diabetes Now!

but I like the way you’ve taken a different slant on it. As a teenager, I still do suffer from the occasional bursts of spots every now and then but I guess it’s all a part of growing up and you set the facts right because many people are still deluded because of what they think causes acne. Good article.

  4. Nice article. My face was once a haven for acne and from time to time it still does. Just happened to see you here my friend. You will know the difference.
