Attention Deficit Disorder
Attention deficit disorder affects everyone in the family unit who is primarily involved with the child. Unless diagnosed at an early age, this disorder leads to chaos and quite disturbing outcomes regarding the child’s future.
Attention deficit has been around for years but has not been recognized until the 80’s.. Many people remember the “class clown” in school; the one who couldn’t sit still and was the center of any class’s attention.
Unless diagnosed earlier, the child suffers many road blocks concerning the normal milestones that children should experience early on. Many researchers feel that allergies and speech impediments also ride along with the disorder. One thing is for sure; attention deficit has a mind of its own. What I mean is that anyone who suffers from attention deficit has problems dealing with the world. Usually a flood of thoughts tales over any conversation and the focus regarding it all floats out the window. It is best described as day-dreaming. Day-dreaming and not paying attention in the class-room is what parents usually read on a child’s report card concerning this disorder.
Counseling and a pediatrician who understands attention deficit disorder is a must. There are no bad children in this world just neglect on the part of professionals in the school system; who remain uneducated regarding the facts and symptoms of attention deficit disorder.
Medications such as Ritalin, Clonidine and Adderal; are used to aide in the symptoms of “Attention Deficit Disorder”. Children respond well to these medications. Usually if the school is not aware the child is on medication; they report a positive behavioral change to the parents. It is best to be anonymous with school systems; as their observations will remain objective and non-biased formulated; such as when changes such as medications and counseling have been introduced.
