Child Diabetes

Having diabetes is rough, but when you are a kid there can be none tougher. Find out ways you can help your child through his or her diabetes.

Adults are not the only ones who are developing a life long battle with diabetes. Children are facing the same problem even though they usually do not develop diabetes under that age of five. However, some babies who are only a few months old are sadly already developing Type 1 diabetes in some cases.

Upon, finding out this information it has also been seen even though in it’s rarest form that those who are under five years old are being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

The symptoms are the same for children as it is for adults, children complain about needing to urinate a lot or always being thirsty all the time. If this occurs with your child then getting them checked-up on by a doctor would be in the best interest of both you and your child. Sometimes when your child is still just a little baby it may very hard to notice the symptoms. If your child seems to be needing their diaper changed more or starts to wet the bed or even expresses more need for feeding even after you just changed and fed them, it’s definitely worth checking out.

When you find out that you have diabetes you can feel all kinds of emotions but those emotions grow into something much more when you find out that your child has been diagnosed with diabetes. You can trust that you may feel, upset, guilty, anxious, helpless and even angry. These are all very normal feelings and you should be allowed to feel them express your concerns. Sometimes you may feel as though you will not be able to cope with your child having diabetes and that taking care of them just might be too hard for you to do. Some women and men cannot fathom pricking their child with small needle in order to take their blood sugar level. This is an understandable feeling, however it is for the best and that’s what needs to be remembered.

Keeping your child’s blood glucose level in-between 4 and 7 millimoles per liter can help to reduce any risk that they might have as an adult. You should make sure that you have full support when helping your child cope with his or her diabetes, talk to health professionals and learn as much has you can about diabetes and what it entails. You should plan for regular visits and talk with diabetes healthcare professionals on a regular basis to discuss your child’s health and development. You have to make sure you are producing your child with the right foods at the right time to make sure their blood sugar goes up and down as least as possible. If needed, insulin has to be provided at the approximate times also. This can also be hard on the parents since shots hurt children and they would rather not have them. Sometimes a child might make it harder by begging that he didn’t get it because it will hurt. As time goes by, the child will get used to the shot and it won’t be so bad but upfront it can be very hard to go through.

Mothers and fathers still have to work even if their child has diabetes, so you have to find someone to watch over your child who will take very good care of them and can be trusted. It is not a very good idea for your child to be put in a daycare with 20 other kids. It has been noticed that those who have many kids to watch over can not provide what it needed for your child. You have to let the person watching your kid know everything there is to know about your child and their medications. Sometimes there will be day-care centers that have a separate room for children who need special things done with them during the day. I recommend these day-care centers as the best place to take your diabetic child if you can’t be home with them.
