Kids Find a New Excuse to Not Eat Their Greens

What happens when kids put two and two together and make new excuses to not eat their spinach? How far could they take it?

Kids are already finicky enough when it comes to eating. Now with the spinach E. Coli scare, kids have one more thing to add to their arsenal.

It’s hard enough to get most children to eat a wide selection of foods. Heck, most won’t even touch anything outside of the pizza, hot dog, and McDonald’s food groups at least once while they’re growing up, let alone something green and leafy. It’s green, it tastes funny, it comes out of the ground (not that they think that milk coming from a cow is gross though), you name it and they’ve thought of it. Now kids can add in that they won’t eat their spinach because the government said it was bad for you. The really smart kids will throw out that it’s their American duty to not eat spinach since it was the terrorists who poisoned it all with E. Coli. Who’s going to be the anti-American parent and force their little patriot to eat their greens now? After all, several years ago it broccoli that was the big anti-American vegetable thanks for George Bush Senior’s dislike of it.

Of course, if they can get away with not eating their spinach because they’re being patriotic, then what’s next? I doubt any kid will willingly give up french fries since that falls into the McDonald’s food group (even if their parents did start eating Freedom Fries a few years back). Since they’ve given up on spinach (and all leafy greens which may be infected) we know for sure they won’t have to worry about giving up french dressing, since there’s nothing to put it on. Maybe they’ll give up french toast in exchange for belgian waffles…
