Overprotective parents slow normal brain development of children down, thus increasing the risk of mental disorders.
According to the special study by the University «Gunma» in Japan, led by Dr. Kosouke Narita, children who are overprotected tend to be more vulnerable to mental malfunctions.
Scientists have examined about 50 20 years old people and they requested them to answer a questionnaire on their relationship with their parents during the first 16 years of life.
The data collected by scientists showed that those volunteers characterized by their overprotective parents brought less gray matter in the prefrontal cortex compared with those considered “healthy” relationship with their parents.

Wow. I didn’t know this… It sounds pretty crazy. Thanks for sharing, I must show this to my big brother, he’s about to get a kid.. Brain damage is not the only bad thing about overprotecting.. It can also make it hard for the children to do stuff on their own when they grow up.. Thanks for sharing this, Sotiris!
Best regards,
Anders
