Parenting Tips: Relief From the Allergy Hysteria

How to curtail the hysteria behind the banning of foods in schools due to allergies.

Have you noticed lately how fanatical some parents have become in attempting to ban food and drinks from schools? If their child is allergic to a particular item, they demand that it be kept out of the entire school and attempt to coerce you, with the help of educators, into feeding “designated” foods to your children.

What is behind this hysteria? The safety of their child, which of course is paramount. However, there is a much darker side to this issue. If we as a society decide to wear narrow blinders which allow us to only see one point of view and this type of attitude prevails, children will not be allowed to eat at all. By extension, expanding the issue into the general population at large, we should eliminate all restaurants since any person who is allergic might have a reaction once they enter through the door of a restaurant.

In addition, we should close all grocery stores, farmers’ markets and any other place that sells food.

Rational people realize that the best solution is not to deprive 98% of children from nutritional food. It’s much healthier to have those students with severe allergies stay at home where they can be educated by their parents, a tutor, or over an internet connection. This would help protect them from organic contamination.

Take up the Challenge

What can you do as a parent? For starters, find and organize other similar thinking parents for support. In addition, educators must understand that the needs of “All” the school children must be given equivalent consideration when it comes to making policy decisions. Rally the parents to attend school board meetings. Make your voices heard and don’t allow yourselves to be intimidated by so called “experts” on the subject. Your common sense approach is just as valid. When the fanatics start their tirade, you’ll have the support you need to counter the irrational behavior they exhibit.

Does your school already ban certain types of food or drink? In that case, it’s time to take back your school. Organize a petition, point out the alternative solutions, and give your child the nutrients they need to have a healthy mind and body. As a last resort, get the majority of parents to keep their children home until the school policy is changed.

Conclusion

Remember, you also have the right to stand up for your children’s well being. Eating healthy food is essential for all young people. Their future is in your hands.
