Almost everyone today is intent on losing weight. The best way to lose weight, as we all know, is to burn those calories that we are bringing in. There are tons of ways to burn calories, but let’s look at some really strange ways to go about it. You may not have thought about these 10 weird ways to burn extra calories!

1. Get colder.

If you take a cold shower, your body will automatically try to keep its temperature at about 97 degrees. Because of this, your body will burn some extra calories every time you take a cold shower.

2. Get fidgety.

Many people have a habit of fidgeting. This can come in the form of tapping a pencil, shaking your legs, etc. These things, though they may become annoying to those around you, can actually help you burn calories. Shaking your legs can help you burn hundreds of calories a day, and you may not even notice that you are doing it.

3. Read up high.

Holding your book or newspaper up, instead of laying them down on a table or other surface can help you not only burn some extra calories, but also help tone your arms!

4. Suck in that tummy.

Though it may seem silly, not only will this help your stomach muscles, but it also helps to burn calories. As you flex these muscles, you are working them out, using up those pesky calories.

5. Have a laugh.

Laughing helps burn calories, and it’s also a great way to feel better. You can burn 100 calories in about half an hour of laughing, so have fun at the comedy club, or out with friends.

6. Drink cold water instead of warm.

Similar to taking a cold shower, your body has to work to heat up that water. So, drink a few glasses of cold water (this works best on an empty stomach) a day to burn up some extra calories.

7. Eat more often.

Make sure that you eat the same amount through the day; you don’t want to be adding calories! However, if you eat frequent, small meals, then you will help kick-start your metabolism, helping you to burn calories.

8. Sit up straight.

You’ve probably heard your whole life that slouching is bad for you. Well, if you are trying to burn off some calories, this is completely true. Sitting up straight will help you burn a few extra calories.

9. Gesture when you talk.

Just the simple act of moving around when you are talking can help you lose up to 100 calories a day.

10. Chew gum.

The act of chewing some gum can help you burn right around 10 calories an hour. This may not seem like much, but it adds up.

Burning calories does not have to be a difficult thing. You don’t have to be a personal trainer to stay fit. Many of the small, simple things that we all do on a regular basis help us to burn calories. All you have to do is make a conscious effort to try to do some of these things a little more often, and you will see and feel the results.
