A Disease of 21th Century: Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a vital disease mainly causes to skin ,also known as pigmentation disorder that includes melanocytes in the skin .Looking at the word ‘Vitiligo’,it basically derived from Latin word ‘vitilus’ which means CALF, This type of disease mainly found in India that consists of white patches of disease resembled the white patches of a spotted calf.

Vitiligo also pronounced as Leukoderma, commonly known as chronic relatively a general dermatologic disorder, it mainly causes depigmentation in patches of skin .Talking about the specific cause and pathogenesis of vitiligo, the research is still going on, till now researchers don’t have the complete knowledge of this disease. Although few great physicians have found some evidences that suggests, this disease is caused by a combination of autoimmune, genetic and environmental factors. According to them there are two forms vitiligo ,non-segmental and segmental .compare to segmental vitiligo non-segmental one considered as more prevalent.

      Looking deep into non-segmental vitiligo, there is usually some form of symmetry  in regards to the location of the patches of depigmentation.Simultaneously ,new patches also start to grow near by places ,and will continue to spread in a large portions of the body, or sometimes the patches stick the particular area and became a permanent mark over there .There are different kinds of Vitiligos ,like we find some little pigmented skin remains ,this type of disease is particularly known as Vitiligo Universalis.This type of disease can be cause to people of any age group. , unlike segmental vitiligo which is far more prevalent in teenage years.

    Coming to segmental Vitiligo, it differs from non-segmental in many respects, mainly we can differentiate both disease by appearance, their aetiology and prevalence of associated illness. Not only with cause of disease but the segmental vitiligo differs from its treatment also .More over the segmental vitiligo tends to affect areas of skin that are associated with dorsal roots from the spine .Compare to non-segmental vitiligo ,it spreads more frequently. If the proper treatment of the pigmentation has not been taken then these patches can be remained on the skin throughout the life Tiology.
