A Feast or a Famine?

The issues of feasting, famine and food waste are particularly in people’s minds following Christmas and during the New Year resolutions period, but are year round issues. A discussion…

FEAST OR FAMINE ISSUES:

Okay… we have just passed through the Christmas feasting period, we are into the season of New Year’s resolutions to lose weight.  The attention has been on the feasting and now those extra inches people put on have to be removed.  Self inflicted wounds some may say, a silly cycle of eating and starving others may say, but the issue of weight is one of concern to the medical profession.

OBESITY

SUPERSIZE Vs SUPERSKINNY

The television show Supersize versus Superskinny tackled the issue of unhealthy eating at both ends of the spectrum, but even on Youtube the advertisements on the clips of the show was one tempting people to eat junk food.  All wrong!  The show was good, inspiring, and educational.

MANUEL URIBE

Headlines about Manuel Uribe the heaviest man in the world, getting married drew a lot of attention to the fact that food is an issue and that there are people in the world called “feeders” who actually want to fatten up their spouses either as a means of controlling them or because they have a sexual fat fetish.

Would you want to look like this?  Would you marry this man?

This is totally unhealthy and I won’t even raise the issue of conjugal relations out of decency!

BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

Gluttony is the sin that most Christians like to ignore, including a few fat Pastors!

Proverbs 23:20–21 (ESV)  “20 Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat,

21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty and slumber will clothe them with rags.”

Depends on how rich they were in the first place of course!

Overeating is a waste of money, unhealthy and can lead to many medical conditions.  Food tastes good, we all need to eat so it is easy to understand that people will struggle with weight problems especially when we are all told to follow the traditions of eat, drink and be merry which are associated with Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, Passover and other world holidays.  The junk food industry and their advertising is very seductive and part of everyday life.  Socialising revolves around food and drink.

  6. You are very right here! I once wrote an article about mauel Uribe and his wedding-over eating takes away everything!

  7. Overdoing anything is not good. There are many different things to enjoy in life. Focusing too much on any one deprives us of time or resources we can spend on others.

  8. Just enough food for our body and more for our mind. Also, for our spirits.

  9. Gluttony indeed is a sin and also not good for our health.

  14. It’s sad to hear about food waste when some people are starving to death. Food tastes good, but better to take small portions and clear the dishes every time.

  15. I need not to be obesity.
