The nation is in an uproar, we are panicking because of a flu outbreak; we are preparing for a major catastrophe.  While it is true flu season is fast approaching, and cities across the country are preparing doctor and large drug store chains with flu shots let us not forget about the basics, such as covering your mouth when your coughing. The suggestion today is to cough in the crack of your arm, opposite the elbow. This avoids us from sneezing in our hands, so if you should shake someone’s hand you don’t spread the germs. Remember to always wash your hands, and carry antibacterial cleanser with you, to keep yourself germ free, is a very important item to keep in your possession. Recently I notices at church, because of the fear of spreading germs, in stead of shaking hands to express “peace be with you”, people just raise their hand to you, and wish you peace; as sad as this is, it is a great way to avoid spreading germs, especially if your belong to a parish with many elderly members.

In addition to the flu shot, they have the flu mist which is inhaled as a fine mist through ones nose, which is great for those who are afraid of shots; which is the reason people have avoided getting a flu shot in the past. So if you have young children or your parents or you for that matter are over 50, getting the flu shot this year is something you should definitely consider. This year it seem very important to protect the young and old alike, most cities are setting up special clinics, not only to give out the shot, but to treat people who believe they may have contracted the swine flu.

Emergency rooms have been put on alert to be prepared for this upcoming winter, to expand their areas, providing more capacity if there is a local outbreak in your area.
