Best Ways to Reduce Your Heart Attack Risk

The risk of having a heart attack is high for both men and women over the age of forty, especially if they are overweight. But there are ways of reducing your heart attack risk by following these precautions.

A heart attack will occur if there is a blockage of the main artery or any other reason that causes the flow of blood to the heart to be interrupted or dramatically slowed down.

Heart attacks and heart related health problems are generally caused by the type of food that you eat and the amount of alcohol that you drink. If you are a heavy smoker this will also increase your heart attack risk.

Your diet is an essential part of reducing your heart attack risk. Certain types of food should be avoided, but the good news is there are many more types of alternative foods which you can eat.

Too much fatty food like cheese or other dairy products will increase the amount of cholesterol that forms in the arteries and decrease the blood flow, raising the blood pressure and putting a strain on your heart.

Have fresh natural yoghurt instead of cheese and use a light margarine on wholemeal bread. When you make cakes, try using virgin olive oil instead of butter. Put it in your salads, pizzas, casseroles and stews.

Eating red meat will increase your chances of having a heart attack, but eating white meat such as chicken, turkey or white fish meat will reduce your heart attack risk.

If you feel that you need to have some alcohol then drink a good quality red wine or a glass of port that will satisfy your alcohol needs and also help to thin out your blood so that it flows more easily.

Having a healthier diet is the essential part of reducing your chances of having a heart attack, but there are other things which will also help to reduce the risk.

Doing some daily keep fit exercises will ensure that your heart as well as your respiratory system is getting the right amount of exercise. Go for a nice relaxing walk that will give you the exact exercise which you need.

The exercise will also help you to lose weight which will lower any strain on your heart and ensure that your blood flows around your body much more easily.

Simply by changing your choice of foods which make up your daily diet and taking these precautions you will greatly reduce any possible risk of having a heart attack and live a long healthier life.
