Reddishness and swelling: When spider bites that place becomes reddish and starts swelling. It happens due to the presence of high level of serotonin in venom. The person will feel severe pain almost instantly followed by inflammation.

Unusual erection in male: There is a toxin named Tx2-6 present in the venom which can create a very unusual and uncomfortable erection in humans. This condition lasts for several hours and could lead to impotence if not properly treated.

Lack of muscle control: Due to the presence of PhTx3 type neurotoxin in venom human nervous system is attacked causing loss of muscle control. Eventually it may end up in paralysis if not treated.

Breathing problems: Victim may face difficulty in breathing. Victims with previous history of breathing problems may become unconscious.

What to do if bitten by Brazilian wandering spider?

Don’t bother about the big or small size of the spider, or how much venom is injected, or is it a Brazilian wandering spider or not. Rush to the nearest hospital for treatment. If possible take with you the spider, dead or alive. It will facilitate your diagnosis.

Don’t get panicked. Although venom is highly toxic it doesn’t kill an adult in few minutes. That happens only in stories. In reality it may take four to six hours or even more to get killed.

But for children bitten by Brazilian wandering spider one needs to be very alert and careful. Venom may spread through the body fast as children have weaker immune system than the adults. Immediate medical attention should be sought as it might develop into medical emergency. Other factors which need to be considered are age and weight of the child.

Treatment for Brazilian wandering spider bite

If venom is injected with the bite then first thing to do is defuse that venom. Antivenom are available but a doctor will decide either patient need it or not. In roughly two to three percent cases antivenom are administered and that is mostly on children.

Patient must inform the doctor if they have any background history of breathing problems or any allergy to insect bites. In both the cases a life threatening situation may develop.

Next thing to do is the treatment for pain and swelling. Administration of pain killer is helpful. External treatment on the spot of bite can reduce swelling.

Finally, if the victim is man, then treatment for this unusual erection should be carried out.
