Human Papilloma Virus Prevention: Pap Smear

Cervical cancer screenings are done by women every 2 years in many countries. Women undergo the discomfort of a pap smear in order to increase their chances of detecting abnormalities in the cervix early. Abnormal cervical cells don’t always indicate the presence of cervical cancer.

Human Papilloma Virus Prevention: HPV Strains

Human papilloma virus (HPV) has many strains. A vaccine has been developed that can protect women who are not yet sexually active from the high-risk strains of HPV. The vaccine is called Cervarix. Cervical cancer prevention by using the Cervarix vaccine is only possible when the vaccine is administered to women and young girls before they become sexually active. The target market for Cervarix is girls and women between the ages of 10 and 25.

Cervarix only protects women from two of the cancer causing HPV strains. Cervarix protects women from infection from HPV 16 and HPV 18. HPV 16 and HPV 18 together cause 75% of cervical cancer cases.

Cervarix cervical cancer vaccine works by stimulating the body’s natural defences to make antibodies against Human Papillomavirus. Cervarix is administered over six months via three separate intramuscular injections. The Cervarix injection sites are usually located in the thigh muscles, or the muscles of the upper arm. The Cervarix cervical cancer injection may cause swelling, bruising, redness, itching and pain in the area that received the vaccine.

Cervarix cervical cancer prevention vaccine may also cause other side effects such as nausea, fainting, joint pain, fever and vomiting. Learn more about Cervarix at Cervarix.com.

This cervical cancer reminds me of an aunt who died several years ago. This aunt I disliked her when I was young as she was quite fierce and fussy, however she changed somehow and when I started to change my opinon on her and liked her, she died of this illness, I remember i cried very badly at the funeral till I had swollen eyes the next day.
I hate papsmear very much but I tried to go every 2 or 3 years. Once I nearly thot I had this illness when I was called back to the clinic after the papsmear, it was a terrible thing to be called back…..(too long to elaborate here…)
