Coffee Does Not Cause Heart Disease
A conclusive study proves that coffee does not cause heart disease.

The final word on coffee and heart disease is that the two are not related. Drinking coffee does not increase your risk of heart disease, indicates the combined study of eleven major coffee and cholesterol studies done in the past twenty-five years.
Doctor Martin B. Myers of the University of Toronto and his colleagues grouped all of the studies together to determine if drinking coffee every day is a risk factor for heart disease.
Out of a total of eleven studies, eight concluded that there was no relationship, whatsoever, between the consumption of coffee and the development of coronary heart disease.
The researchers concluded that the risk of heart disease was the same people who drank one cup of coffee each day as it was for people who drank six cups a day. There is no increased risk of coronary heart disease among coffee drinkers.
The question has also been raised, “Does drinking coffee raise cholesterol levels, and, therefore, increase your risk of heart disease?”
Coffee has been standing trial on the charge that filtered coffee is a health hazard. Some researchers believe that filtered coffee can raise cholesterol levels and your risk of heart disease.
A team of researchers at the John Hopkins Medical Institute did a study to settle the issue, and their results also turned out to be in favor of coffee.
The investigators recruited one hundred volunteers for the study. Each of the volunteers had to be between the ages of twenty and sixty years old with no history of diabetes, ulcers, obesity, high cholesterol levels or cardiovascular disease.
The volunteers also were recruited based on their coffee-drinking habits. They had to have a regular “coffee habit” of more than one and less than six cups of coffee a day.
The final results of the eight-week, carefully controlled study showed a slight increase in the amount of blood cholesterol in the volunteers who drank twenty-four ounces of regular caffeinated coffee each day. None of the volunteers who drank twelve ounces of regular coffee or twenty-four ounces of decaffeinated coffee experienced a rise in blood cholesterol levels.
The researchers concluded that even though the volunteers in the twenty-four ounce regular coffee group experienced a slight increase in blood cholesterol, the increase was so small that it shouldn’t have any effect on the risk of heart disease.
In other words, now you don’t have to hide your face at the coffee shop anymore. You can drink coffee to your heart’s content.

I agree, although I do not have 10,000,000 like the before post. heck, I do not even have 5000!
Anyways, I have been researching caffeine in my “Soda does not harm your body as much as is advertised” post labeled “Myths and facts of soda” or something like that. And I discovered things such as “caffeine does not casue a diuretic effect until you have consumed over 500 mg of caffeine” (over 5 cups of coffee or a whole 2 liter of mountain dew), so this new information does not chock me at all.
I am astounded how many people still hack up these outdated information that high carb diets make you fatter, or soda gives you osteoporosis, these things are outdated and nowadays are no more better off than lies! we need to get rid of all of this outdated and false information and bring in some new ones!

Wow, I’m getting my mom back on coffee. I made her stop drinking coffee after hearing a few terrible things about it. I even made her go to an acupuncturist here in buffalo NY so it can help undo any bad effects, but boy was I wrong. I think the government wants us to be unhealthy by telling us all the wrong things.
Oh well, atleast she benefited from the acupuncture treatments.
Anyone here from buffalo?

If I drank that much coffee in a day, I would never sleep. I am curious though, if they tested with black coffee or if cream, milk or sugar was allowed. The cream especially would change cholesterol levels I think, but then, maybe it’s such a small amount it wouldn’t.

Good to know that coffee is not one the bad boys in heart disease. I think heather (above) is onto something though if you have a lot of coffee in a day (like 6 or 7 cups) and you take cream & sugar you could be building up a real cholesterol problem. Check out how many calories are in some main street coffee chain drinks – you will be surprised.

You gotta ask to what type of coffee we talking about? Is it organic or non organic? People judge to quickly and don’t look at all the variables.

I can’t see how someone can drink 6 cups of coffee a day. That’s major caffeine overload. A year ago when I stopped drinking coffee, I had terrific headaches that lasted over a week due to caffeine withdrawal. I don’t drink coffee daily like before only a cup once in a while when I absolutely need it so my body does not become dependent on caffeine.

Well, I see your point but I must tell you that while coffee doesn’t cause heart disease those with medical conditions shouldn’t drink it. Like me, I drink it but I can only have decaf because I have an overactive heart and anemia. Oddly enough I have found out that both conditions are connected. The reason being that for someone like me coffee can raise my blood pressure and too much coffee can cause jitters and other medical problems. I had a friend once that became absolutely addicted to coffee. Drinking two or more full pots of coffee. What she did wrong in cutting down was going cold turkey and she had cold sweats. I never thought that would happen. Withdrawl maybe, but not sweats. I drink only one cup a day.
