For some people fever, cold temperature, ultraviolet sun light, sunburn, emotional stress, nerve injury, or abrasions can reactivate herpes simplex to cause cold sores. Most of the times the virus quietly hides or sleeps in our central nervous system, but, certain triggers cause it to “wake up” and cause cold sores. Food allergies cause cold sores – I get them from chocolate, food coloring and acidic foods. Stay away from acidic foods (like citrus fruit, tomatoes, and lemonade) salty and spicy foods as they can cause irritation. Another common cause is yeast overgrowth in the system. if you are prone to cold sores try to rest more and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, as both fatigue and overexposure to the sun are known to trigger them.. When active, the virus multiplies and travels down through the nerves to cause blisters around the lips and in the mouth. Research has proven that a Strong Immune System and a clean colon would prevent most cold sores outbreaks.
