Crohn’s Humor
A fun humor about the misfortunes of those suffering from Crohn’s Disease. Having one’s bowel removed is not really funny, but one should find humor in everything, especially the serious stuff.
I am sitting here, relaxing, drinking some nice, warm herbal tea, with my legs kicked up and just thinking about the last past week or so of my own life. (I do these self reflections here and there, you know?) It has been a terribly rough and exhausting past week. You see, I am home relaxing due to just having a serious small bowel resection surgery.
I had surgery for about 5 hours, while the docs are consulting over what the best method of procedure would be on what they were not quite sure of what they saw on my colon and small bowel. The doc thought I had a fistula (a tunnel connecting from one organ to another). After I saw him, and hearing this contemplation he had during the surgery, I casually asked, “So, did ya’ll five doctors drink coffee over discussing what to do next?” And chuckled at my comical question, because I was not really able to laugh without experiencing severe pain.
The doc laughed as well. I wanted to be in good humor, even after experiencing such a serious procedure at only the age of 33 years. You see, I have Crohn’s Disease since about the age of 18 years. It is such a horrific disease, I would not wish it upon anyone. It was my first surgery for the disease, so that was a good thing.
However, I can look forward to more in the far future. I spent 5 days recovering in the hospital. And, I must say, considering the procedure I underwent, I had a pleasant time due to the great hospitality of the entire staff in which I had come across. The docs, nurses, nurses asst, janitors and so on were very welcoming and made my recovery that much easier. By the way, it turned out that it was not a fistula. However, they did have to remove a foot of my small bowel, and part of the colon as well. (all thru a small incision? Amazing!) Technology is wonderful!
