Diabetic Foot
It is a short summary of this condition,prevention and management.
This is a completely preventable problem.
The symptoms are usually numbness,tingling or burning sensation more so at night.
Clinically,the signs indicate less sensation over the feet .This puts the person at increased risk of injury and hence developing diabetic foot.
Foot ulceration is usually painless.
Management would be as follows:
1.Regular chiropody or examination of feet with cleaning of any wounds/ulsers.
2.Prevent pressure over the feet by giving adequate rest,keeping feet elevated and wearing appropriate shoes eg.Pressure relief walkers.

3.If there is infection that quick admission and IV antibiotics will be required.
Summary:
Though this a frequent complication especially with ill controlled long standing diabetes,amputation is preventable by regular check ups and care /inspection of feet.
Wearing appropriate shoes goes a long way to protect from sores.
