Disease and Disorder: Hemorrhagic Pancreatitis

The nature and effects of this serious illness.

There are many people who died because of this kind of illness, but still many are confused with the real cause of death. There are some who say that it is because of nightmare wherein the person experiencing this illness cannot anymore be able to wake up, but there are also some who have their own say to this matter. The Medical Dictionary. The American Heritage® Stedman’s Medical Dictionary Copyright © 2002, 2001, 1995 by Houghton Mifflin Company defined this illness as,

“Acute inflammation of the pancreas accompanied by the formation of necrotic areas on the surface of the pancreas and in the omentum and, frequently, also accompanied by hemorrhages into the substance of the gland.”

There are many causes of this illness

1. Large Consumption of Alcohol

Heavy or prolonged use of alcohol can cause inflammation of the pancreas, which can be very painful, causing vomiting, fever and weight loss, and can be fatal. This is because it makes the enzymes of the pancreas digest the gland itself, and because the pancreas without capsule is located at the upper right quadrant of the abdominopelvic of the body, the inflammation spread easily. To further explain why the enzymes of the pancreas become uncontrollable; on the cellular level, ethanol leads to intracellular accumulation of digestive enzymes and their premature activation and release. On the ductal level, ethanol increases the permeability of ductules, which allow enzymes to reach the parenchyma, resulting in pancreatic damage.

2. Sleeping After Eating a Very Heavy Meal

Sleeping after eating is bad but it’s not really the main focus, but how much fat you have eaten that night before you sleep. Sleeping after eating can just be normal but if the person already ate too many fats then that’s another case. When we don’t use the energy of the food we ate during supper, the body will just turn it to fats and store it in our fat pockets, but if the fat content of the food is very high the pancreas will be forced to work very hard to produce lipases for the fats to be digested. The organ will become worn out and damages itself.

3. Certain medications (especially estrogens, corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, and azathioprine)

4. Traumatic injury and viral infections (mumps).

Some Signs and Symptoms

1. Fever

The very fist defensive mechanism of the body is to elevate the temperature of the body to fight off the invading bacteria or to correct any abnormalities inside the body.

2. Pain

The main presentation of acute pancreatitis is epigastric pain or right upper quadrant pain radiating to the back.

3. Jaundice

It is the state wherein the eyes and the skin become slightly or very yellowish.

4. Skin rashes or lesion

5. Clay colored stool

6. Abdominal tenderness, distension, guarding, and rigidity

The best way to avoid hemorrhagic pancreatitis is just to do what is naturally healthy such as avoiding what is harmful for the body. Some of the cases show that children get this illness because of viral infection such as mumps, so it is really best to have the children have immunizations. God Bless You All!
